How did this thread devolve into not being about KISN?
FYI the licensee WORC is a non-profit. The stream will be non commercial, non profit too. Good Guy Radio is not incorporated. If the public supports it, we have a service. If not. Oh well.
You are right Andy, Big full power radio stations will not make money with the format, That’s why they’ve all abandoned it. However the 50+ demographic is still pretty large, just not lucrative. We are not in it for the money. We are all volunteers and are doing it because we like it.
The WORC will have Ham radio news blurbs and programming inserted to meet the license requirements. We also plan to open the doors to enthusiasts that want to learn about radio. So no violations here. Besides I don’t think the FCC gives a whit about LPFM. Look what they did to KQSO. Put a new translator on for Alpha that wiped out their frequency. We’re not trying to compete we just want to have some fun. To that end we have a kickstarter to raise enough to put in on if you’d like to help
Pretty good assessment Andy. 95.1 is NOT on the air yet. We are running a kickstarter on Monday to get the necessary funds to put it on. (The link will work then.) We hope to be up by late March. The REAL reason we went FM was the get the terrestrial signal that reduces the cost of music licensing for the stream. Goodguyradio.com will return with streaming to computers and mobile devices. DOA? I don’t think so. Despite the low power, we think it’s COOL that KISN is back in Portland.
100,000 watts from Council Crest? Oh how I wish, But not likely at this stage. At least we are on the air and it’s real radio. More than just an internet stream which is what we had before.
KISN will never be the powerhouse it once was, that’s pretty clear, but there are so many loyal listeners out there that we wanted to bring it back the best way we could. Thanks to the Western Oregon Radio club, we got an FCC license, the KISN-LPFM call letters (First time back in Portland since 1976) and a transmitter. So here we come. We need everyone’s help to make this a go, so spread the word. KISN is back. Ninety-five point one-derful. How’s that?
