CBC Budget Cuts Lead To Cancellation Of ‘Dispatches,’ Radio One Dramas
The CBC’s budget ax has fallen on the English-language radio side, with the Canadian national broadcaster announcing the cancellation of CBC RADIO ONE’s “DISPATCHES” and the end of all drama programming on RADIO ONE as part of a $3 million budget cut. 18 jobs will be lost on the radio side in the cuts.
Also taking a hit at CBC English Services in the $86 million total cut was the CBC’s news department, which will lose $10 million and 88 jobs; CBC NEWS NETWORK’s “CONNECT WITH MARK KELLEY”; the network’s documentary department; CBC SPORTS, which will convert “SPORTS WEEKEND” to seasonal status and cut back on coverage of amateur sports; and CBC KIDS, which will cut back programming by four hours.

The FCC is asking for more information in a dispute between SOUTH SOUND BROADCASTING, licensee of News KOMO-F/OAKVILLE, WA, and SUNNYLANDS BROADCASTING, which won the auction for a new FM at ILWACO, WA. SOUTH SOUND has applied to move the city of license of KOMO-F to BELFAIR, WA, to which SUNNYLANDS has objected; the Commission is looking for information to rebut the presumption that BELFAIR is actually dependent upon the OLYMPIA-LACEY Urbanized Area or that the proposal would better serve the public than the present allocations.

ParticipantI wonder if the pirate station on 101.1 in Olympia is still operating?
July 31, 2012 at 5:40 am #1796Chico
ParticipantIt appears your wishes have come true. You can once again be able to safely hear 101.1 out of PDX and 101.1 from Vancouver BC mix together in unintelligible trash in Olympia. Many lives were lost but it was worth it, as all the legal broadcasts that were snuffed out by the pirate at 101.1 Olympia are now free to broadcast unfettered. Serving no one.
How many listeners to 101.1 in PDX and Vancouver are there in Oly? 0
How many listeners to 98.5 in Oly wanted to somewhat hear 98.5 in Victoria? 0
How many local stations were being jammed by micro transmitters at 101.1 and 98.5 in Oly? 0
But by God we sure showed them pirates a thing or three about attempting to use the public airwaves without being a large corporation. Those pirates were sure hurting a lot of broadcasters. And they were sure a menace to the public, what with being hippies and all…publicizing Food Banks and Clothing Drives. ’tis the work of Satan, I tells ya.

ParticipantIf you let one pirate go, you have to let them ALL go. That’s only fair.

ParticipantAll they would have to do is get an LP license and they could get on the air legally. I’m guessing they don’t know how to fill out the application, perhaps they don’t know English.
