Let me continue where I was going with this. According to Radio-Locator.com, The Union Gap station is 4,000 watts directional and puts 0.15mv/m fairly close to Puyallap and Auburn,(about ten miles)which is about as far east as you can get and still be considered the Seattle area. By comparison, KVI puts 0.15mv/m into downtown Portland! http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KDYK&service=AM&status=L&hours=D

If you mean it’s a laugher, I agree. KMAS Shelton at 1030, 10 kW/1 kW ND putting 0.5 mv right to Seattle. KDYK would be lost in the noise and ACI.

Not to mention flamethrowers in Reno and Calgary at 1010 and a co channel in Moses Lake only 100 km away, facing the other way, but still . . .

CRTC Targets Cross-Border Punjabi Broadcasters Using KVRI & KRPA To Target Vancouver

The CRTC has asked two broadcasters with studios in the VANCOUVER area targeting that market with Punjabi programming to appear before a hearing this week and has settled with a third over the use of U.S. AM signals to reach listeners and advertisers on the Canadian side of the border.

The VANCOUVER SUN reports that SHER-E-PUNJAB BROADCASTING INC. of RICHMOND, BC and RADIO INDIA (2003) LTD. of SURREY, BC have been summoned to a hearing to determine if they are violating Canadian broadcasting laws by using the American signals to target VANCOUVER. A third company, RADIO PUNJAB LTD., was also initially called, but reached a consent agreement with the Commission but told the SUN that under the deal, the company can continue to broadcast.

The controversy also extends to the move by BBC BROADCASTING, INC. Ethnic KRPI-A/FERNDALE, WA, which is operated under an LMA by SHER-E-PUNJAB, to POINT ROBERTS, WA, the town that abuts BRITISH COLUMBIA (and is only accessible via land to the rest of the U.S. by detouring across the border through B.C. and back). The station’s proposed facility would increase nighttime power to 50,000 watts, but has drawn opposition from residents on both sides of the border. And the CRTC, which has denied the operators licenses for new stations proposed for B.C. in the past, has granted another operator, SOUTH FRASER BROADCASTING INC., a license for a new FM station, MY SURREY, to broadcast English-language programming targeting the South Asian market, but the new licensee has family ties to SHER-E-PUNJAB, drawing calls to have the license rescinded.

RADIO INDIA operates via MULTICULTURAL BROADCASTING Ethnic KVRI-A/BLAINE, WA, also under an LMA. RADIO PUNJAB formerly aired on NEW AGE MEDIA’s KRPA-A/OAK HARBOR, WA but ceased doing so on SEPTEMBER 23rd and is now online only.

It is too bad that the KGY callsign was not transferred to KYYO. Now, an old-time three-letter callsign is gone for good! 🙁

Gone but not forgotten… I understand that the translator (220 watts) brands as “95.3 KGY”. Pretty decent coverage: http://goo.gl/maps/JFSKZ
