Smooth Jazz Network Lands in Tri-Cities
The SMOOTH JAZZ NETWORK has landed on JACOBS RADIO PROGRAMMING’s new station in TRI CITIES, WA — simulcasted on KWDR and Translator K272ED, which will be known as “SMOOTH JAZZ 102.3 FM.”
“Many adult Tri-Citians will be very happy with this new radio station,” JACOBS RADIO PROGRAMMING Owner JEFF JACOBS said. “This won’t be just another radio station playing a slightly different arrangement of the same music as the other radio stations … this will be a radio station unto its own, truly filling a void in our region.”
“We are thrilled to bring the SMOOTH JAZZ NETWORK to the TRI-CITIES are,” SMOOTH JAZZ NETWORK Pres. ALLEN KEPLER said. “Having developed the Smooth Jazz format since the late ’80s, we have experienced many successes and numerous challenges, and we continue to hear the outcry from supporters of the format and adult radio consumers. The audience of the region has some of the most avid supporters we’ve seen of any radio format and we are thrilled to assist JEFF and his team fill a void for this quality format. The Smooth Jazz format provides an excellent lane for broadcasters who truly want to see a unique position in the market — adult upscale, intelligent listeners who have otherwise been abandoned by radio.”

ParticipantThe Whitman College radio station dodged a bullet and has had its license reinstated/renewed. Apparently for the entire duration of its previous renewal, the bozo artsies at Whitman have not met any of the few FCC requirements for keeping track of public file matters at all. But with all that money, they hired a good lawyer and weaseled out of the problem.

ParticipantYeah, bozo artsies like Chief Justice William O. Douglas, Walter Brattain, co-inventor of the transistor, Ralph Cordiner, former president of General Electric, US Ambassador Ryan Crocker. You know…bozos.
And as far as having to hire a good lawyer- they send roughly 40 a year on to Duke Law in an exchange program. SO probably pro bono for the alma mater.
SO, yeah, hippies and morons. Are you thinking of Reed, perhaps? 😀
Class of ’87
GM student owned KWCW ’85 and ’86, PD ’84 and ’85.
BTW, Live and Local 24/7 with an all-volunteer staff of 85 to 90, at least in that era. And not owned by the school; actually owned by the students. And for the better part of 45 years very legal…
