    A great historical write up by Dan Howard, with neat photos, on how the Columbia river flooding in the middle of the last century affected radio stations in Portland, Vancouver and Longview.

    Howard is with the Northwest Vintage Radio Society and the 147 page Vanport pdf publication is on the SBE (Portland Society of Broadcast Engineers) website here,

    Thanks, Dan for remembering this period of time and the history of Van Port. I have actually studied this subject. What I recognize is while the image of this area as a black relocation, it really wasn’t. The majority of Van Port was white, but segregation was indeed an issue, common for the time. The problem was not so much racism as it was a terrible area to house many veterans. Then it flooded. Not an overall good history of Portland.
