Well actually millions of taxpayers paid into those systems over decades so that you and I can benefit from them now. Isn’t that socialism? It’s not like we paid into a private savings account and are now collecting our own money with interest.October 22, 2020 at 2:06 pm #48418October 22, 2020 at 2:10 pm #48419VitalogyParticipant
Hmmmm, now what is it about Harris that is unlikeable? I just can’t quite put my finger on it.October 22, 2020 at 2:34 pm #48420
Besides separating migrant families at the border, many on a possibly permanent basis stranding infants without their parents, and endearing Putin, Un, white supremacy, no exercise, a poor diet, not wearing a mask in the worst pandemic in 100 years . . . there are many other reasons some would still cast a vote for more insanity.
Money, money and money come to mind in the instant case.
The U.S.’s standing in the world. They don’t care.
Having international allies. They don’t care.
Providing health care for anyone that wants it. Nope.
Prodiding a basic education for everyone. They don’t care.
Should I go on?
All labeled socialism by enemies such as Deane whom would rather see more of drumpf’s “good goals” than some socialistic agenda that actually helps out those that need help.
Some voters are just turds. Often old, ill informed, set in their misdirected ways and beyond help. This time around it is almost a certainty they are going to get the short straw on election day.
There is little patience left for those that wish to allow the continued destruction of democracy, the planet and good will. Just remember, it is they that brought the drumpf era upon us but it is everyone else (a.k.a. the informed majority) that is going to put an end to it in two weeks.October 22, 2020 at 2:43 pm #48421
Nothing personal, Deane. You’re one of a group. For a few months there I thought you had woken up. You haven’t. Go back to sleep. As usual the rest of us, aided by a few converts, some of whom are wealthy Republicans, will get this job done.
Best of luck. I hope you find solace and good grace in your continued errant choices. The GOP you love so much, the one that made you rich, is now morally vacuous. Continued embracement of these clowns will be your undoing in the long run. You may live the rest of your life and never “get it.” You’re excused. Stupidity is its own reward. There is no intelligence involved if you support drumpf. None. Zero. You obviously think otherwise, but if Jesus were here today, and challenged you, what would you say about how drumpf has performed? He preserved your wealth? What about the poor? the needy? being a good steward of the planet?October 22, 2020 at 3:27 pm #48424
Sounds like you have it all figured out Andy. Nothing for me to respond to.October 22, 2020 at 3:54 pm #48425radiogeekParticipant
Reading Deane’s posts, I’d be justified in thinking he’s actually a Russian Troll paid to help sow division in the USA. But then some of you act as if you know him, and the back story seems plausible.
I’ve let two long term friends slide as I can’t talk to them about anything anymore. We really can’t talk to each other anymore, that’s what is destroying this country. Folks get political power by making pejoratives like “Socialism” rather than talking about where we should be a bit socialistic, and where free markets do a better job.

Actually RadioGeek, I’m pretty much a middle of the road moderate. That’s probably why I found Klobuchar and Tulsi Gabbord interesting possibilities.
Had either of them gotten the nomination, depending on their VP choice, I might have voted Democratic and dumped Trump.
I have no desire to defend Trump. He is what he is. Everyone pretty much knows the story. No need to talk about it. It’s sort of like having to choose between two evils this election. I’ve chosen and mailed in my ballot.
BTW RadioGeek (Ed), I do appreciate your commentary.

Deane, no one who supports Trump’s policies is a “a middle of the road moderate.” Big tax cuts for the wealthy, trying to reverse anything to address climate change, trying to completely repeal (not replace, a lie) Obamacare and bring back pre-existing conditions, trying to repeal Roe v. Wade using Supreme Court appointments are all extreme right-wing positions. You said you support his policies even if you hate him personally. Those are his extreme positions.October 22, 2020 at 5:11 pm #48429
“Sounds like you have it all figured out Andy.”
Your words, not mine. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I sure as hell know a turd of a president when I smell it. I also know how to substantiate a viewpoint and justify my actions. You, on the other hand, don’t. Andrew got it exactly correct, you can no longer claim middle ground. You’re not a moderate and your claims as such don’t fly here. Save them for your Elks Lodge and Rotary meetings.October 22, 2020 at 5:24 pm #48431
Assuming Harris ascended to the Presidency for whatever reason, what exactly are you concerned about in terms of her power as President to make sweeping changes without the approval of Congress? What would she do that would turn the US into a hard-left socialist country?
I guess she could play the Executive Order card but I doubt that would get her very far.October 22, 2020 at 5:32 pm #48433
Andrew, call it what wish. I have no problem with that.
Lastday, I stated my position, I have no need to discuss it further. If you’re comfortable with her, you should enjoy her future in politics. I won’t.October 22, 2020 at 5:38 pm #48434
It’s ok to say “I just don’t trust her”. But it seems a little weak, given the unpredictable turd we currently have who will tell any lie, throw anyone under the bus who doesn’t lick his boots, etc etc.
But that’s just me.October 22, 2020 at 5:51 pm #48435
They are two very different animals and with very different agendas. Trump may be a loose cannon, but he would be gone in 4 years and anything he did that should be changed, could be changed.
She’s out of the liberal world of government knows best and should run your life for you. Once that crap gets in place, it’s all but impossible to put an end to it.
I see Trump’s shortcomings being temporary, I see hers being of the type that get to be very permenant and we have to live with them forever.October 22, 2020 at 6:02 pm #48436
Trump is making lasting changes to the very office of the Presidency. He’s redefined the role of the Attorney General to that of Attorney To The President. He’s made serial lying by himself and his staff normal. He won’t tolerate any dissenting voices among his staff. These all set precedents for future presidents.
That’s just my opinion.
