News reports coming out tonight that members of Trump campaign team in repeated contact with Russian intelligence throughout campaign last year.
The tip of the iceberg is getting bigger and the Trump-tanic is heading straight for it.February 14, 2017 at 7:52 pm #27324
Two similar threads here, but no biggie.
I think the Russia thing is going to be extremely problematic for our new “so-called” President. We will see how it plays out, but it doesn’t look good for the Donald.February 15, 2017 at 9:01 am #27336
No matter how many times the faithful cling to other fictions, it’s an undeniable fact that Russia attempted to influence the end result of an American election to ensure the outcome they preferred. They did not want Hillary Clinton in The White House. They were pro-Trump.
Anyone who actually, rather than simply claims to, put country first would be beyond alarmed and angered at that in of itself.
It’s also a fact that many members of Donald Trump’s inner circle have been cozying up to Vladimir Putin for years; primarily due to personal economic gain rather than ideological support thereof, but certainly untroubled by the associations as long as they could profit from it.
Flynn has long term associations with Russia. He’s made money from those connections. He was given a medal, by the Russian government, for appearing on Russia’s official state television program and enthusiastically defending Vladimir Putin. That actually happened. By all means, look it up.
Paul Mannafort has had long term associations with Russia. He made oceans of cash working as a lobbyist for pro-Russian government business interests in Ukraine. He has/had extensive business interests in both Russia and Ukraine as well.
From CNN this morning: (It’s also being widely reported elsewhere)
“High-level advisers close to then-presidential nominee Donald Trump were in constant communication during the campaign with Russians known to US intelligence, multiple current and former intelligence, law enforcement and administration officials tell CNN.
President-elect Trump and then-President Barack Obama were both briefed on details of the extensive communications between suspected Russian operatives and people associated with the Trump campaign and the Trump business, according to US officials familiar with the matter.
Both the frequency of the communications during early summer and the proximity to Trump of those involved “raised a red flag” with US intelligence and law enforcement, according to these officials. The communications were intercepted during routine intelligence collection targeting Russian officials and other Russian nationals known to US intelligence.
Among several senior Trump advisers regularly communicating with Russian nationals were then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort and then-adviser Michael Flynn”.
None of this is going away anytime soon.
These are only partisan issues as The Republican faithful have decided to put party over country. People are not now, nor have they ever, rallied in opposition to Donald Trump because he’s a “conservative” or a “Republican”. He’s neither.
Given the choice to vote between this dangerous and imbecilic man-child and any number of actual Republican candidates, up to and including Mike Pence, and I would happily pull the lever for any of them. Had Donald run as a Democrat, I would have never, ever, supported him. He’s utterly unqualified and unsuited for that office and is doing real damage to our country and it’s institutions.
Good work, GOP.February 15, 2017 at 3:31 pm #27341
Related: I don’t listen to Rush much, but today I happened to tune in and his latest conspiracy theory is that there is, in his words, “A shadow Obama government” in place made up of both democrats and republicans. He says they are more dangerous than anything Trump has proposed or done. If we thought Rush had lost it long ago, this just confirms he is a long way from “finding” it.
