A few days ago, a co-worker told me that he has been hearing a CW transmission at 180.0 kHz that is two short bursts of RF followed by a pause(the morse code letter “I”). I tried to listen for this, without success. Can anybody else receive this mystery signal? My co-worker thinks that the source is local because the signal strength does not change with the time of day.

I have not heard it… what was your co-worker using for a receiver/antenna and where/when was it heard?

He was using a loop and listening from Forest Grove. He told me that his rotator is still broken, so he cannot identify the source. Most likely, he is hearing a Part-15 LowFER beacon.

When it stops raining, 🙂 I will go out and try to pad my loop down to 180 kHz and try again. Ditto on broken rotator, but the loop is close to the ground so I can use the Armstrong driver.
