ParticipantAlthough mourners inside the church applauded politely as Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke, hundreds of officers outside turned their backs on him in a show of disrespect for what they see as his support for anti-police protesters.

The NYPD just showed the rest of the country how little class they have, while at the same time increasing the public’s distrust of them.
All while at a funeral. Pathetic behavior.

SpectatorHe threw the police under the bus and set them up to be targets.

ParticipantNYPD’s own behavior is the problem, not the Mayor.
Video and stats don’t lie. There’s a reason why NYPD has lost the public’s trust.
Again, a classless move by NYPD.

ParticipantThe NYPD has their “give a shit” broken, and it shows.
Remember that guy with singles? Were any cigarettes found on him? I sometimes wonder.
Had their “give a shit” not been broken, they could have handled that scenario without killing somebody.
The cops work for the Mayor, and the Mayor works for the people of New York. Damn right he called them out on this as he should.
Rather than be petty about it, perhaps they can find it in themselves to fix their “give a shit” and everybody will be better off.

Participant“He threw the police under the bus and set them up to be targets. ”
What did he do or say to make you think that? Show your work.

ParticipantSeconded.

ParticipantWhatever complaint NYPD has with De Blasio there are two things that are clear;
1. The NYPD made the funeral about themselves instead of their fallen comrades.
2. There are now two organizations that stage protests at funerals;
Westboro Baptist Church

ParticipantWell said, Amus. Regardless of anything else, both of your points are 100% true. Spot-on accurate.
December 28, 2014 at 8:20 am #5024jerry1949
SpectatorThen add the Democratic Party to your list, Amus, if one event qualifies an organization to be equated with Westboro. Do you remember their disgraceful behavior at Senator Wellstone’s memorial?
December 28, 2014 at 8:47 am #5026Amus
ParticipantNice try, but apples and oranges.
1. The Wellstone funeral protests, while inappropriate and out-of-line, were spontaneous not organized.
(Notice how I used the word “staged”. That’s an important difference.)2. Not everything you heard about the Welstone funeral was true.
3. Time will tell if an apology is ever offered up by the NYPD.
EDIT;
BTW, Edselehr & Missing are still waiting for you to back-up your claim that De Blasio threw the NYPD under the bus.
You going to do that, or just ignore it like you do every other piece of unsupported BS you throw out there?
December 28, 2014 at 12:05 pm #5038edselehr
ParticipantOr…let’s assume that the Democrats *did* conduct a staged protest at the Wellstone funeral…
How do you stand on such protests, F&B? Appropriate or inappropriate?
(@Amus: see the “they do it too” dodge embedded in F&B’s comment?)
And YES, F&B – When are you going to prove your earlier claim? Or is it hot air like most of your posts?
December 28, 2014 at 2:01 pm #5039missing_kskd
ParticipantOh yes! But the Democrats! Or… But the liberals!
Let’s get back on track. We are discussing this event now, and it’s atomic, not requiring we compare and contrast other events, or go down the both sides road here.
Show your work as asked F&B.

ParticipantAmazing, and now we have silence!
I’ll just call that the shake and bake combo and move on.
When one goes to look for “both sides” and “but the liberals…”, it’s everywhere. Same with, “always two sides to every story”, which is a load of crap really. There are stories, facts, and what we think they mean.
Which is a very different thing.
And the reverse is true! “But the Republicans” happens too. Right along with, “we are all fucked”, or “everybody sucks”, etc…
Factor those out to get to meaningful dialog, and know what?
That’s hard.

ParticipantImagine if the cops acted like this on Rudy’s watch. All we would be hearing is how horrible the police union is, and unions in general.
