I, and a number of former KING Broadcasting people are amazed that KING-FM is going listener-supported. It was one of the most successful classical music stations in the country, making a nice profit every year. Something really bad must have happened.January 4, 2011 at 6:03 am #1375RadioBuggieParticipant

The Canadian-based company was offering $23.99 per share for Fisher, which closed Monday at $23.45, up $1.65 on the buyout offer.February 5, 2011 at 4:01 am #1376

Jim Richards Named PD At Click 98.9/Seattle
SANDUSKY RADIO Hot AC KWJZ (CLICK 98.9 FM,)/SEATTLE has appointed JIM RICHARDS as PD. RICHARDS was most recently VP/Content for TRIBUNE INTERACTIVE and has programmed stations such as KSJO/SAN JOSE, KIOZ, 91X and KGB/SAN DIEGO. What’s more he has been RVP/Programming for CLEAR CHANNEL’s SAN DIEGO cluster, as well as Rock Brand Manager working with the country’s top Active, Classic and Alternative outlets.
“I can’t wait to begin building a staff, and using the skills learned in New Media to create a unique experience for seattle listeners,” RICHARDS said. “MARC KAYE and his team have laid a great foundation, and CLICK 98.9 FM is already gaining traction in its infancy. This is the ideal timing for a programmer to jump on board; I’m grateful MARC chose me to lead the way.”
“We are so looking forward to having JIM join the CLICK team, he’s is the perfect match for CLICK,” VP/GM MARC KAYE said. “With his solid leadership, we’re poised to create something truly special with this new radio station.”February 5, 2011 at 4:12 pm #1377

The “bad thing” that happened was farming out the sales force to another radio group about 15 years ago. It worked well when it was Bonneville & Entercom (KIRO), but when the JSA moved to Fisher things didn’t go well (financially and otherwise) for either party.
Not only that, these days KING’s running a ton of PI spots that – honestly – don’t fit very well with the station’s format or listener makeup.
Those are the reasons the station decided to go noncommercial.February 19, 2011 at 2:40 am #1378

Both Northwest Broadcasters and Radio-Info’s Seattle Board report First Broadcasting defaulted on KMCQ-FM and two other stations in Chicago.
IMO, in retrospect it a waste of a process about 10 years ago of moving the station from The Dalles to the Seattle area.February 22, 2011 at 7:05 am #1380kahtikParticipant
Here is the latest from a previous part time stomping ground. Always loved the studio and location as it was easy to hit off the freeway. If you know of anyone, I would suggest sending off a package.

It’s so funny to see on many sites posts about that First Broadcasting auction from people that don’t seem to understand that by winning the auction they’re NOT buying a radio station.February 24, 2011 at 4:57 pm #1385

Not a thing.
This “auction” was nothing but a charade to orchestrate debt restructuring for the lenders.February 25, 2011 at 4:27 am #1388the_truthParticipant

Hopefully 104.5 KMCQ will be sold soon. First doesn’t deserve to be in the radio business.
