ParticipantFrom the Tom Taylor NOW newsletter Tuesday AM:
“Two family-owned groups do a $85.5 million deal direct, with Minnesota-based Hubbard acquiring the Sandusky radio operations in Seattle and Phoenix. There won’t be an immediate LMA. Hubbard’s Ginny Morris says ‘this is an exciting opportunity to expand Hubbard Radio into two Top 20 markets.’ Each cluster has five stations. Seattle includes CHR KQMV (92.5), soft AC “Warm” KRWM (106.9), hot AC “Click 98.9″ KLCK, adult standards KIXI (880) and news/talk KKNW (1150).”

ParticipantI was thinking that the stations in Seattle do pretty good as far as revenues….wonder what was the pricing for the FMs in Seattle?

Hubbard Radio Acquires 10 Stations From Sandusky – 5 Stations Each In Seattle And Phoenix
HUBBARD RADIO has entered into an asset purchase agreement to acquire 10 radio stations from SANDUSKY RADIO, adding five radio stations in SEATTLE and five in PHOENIX, for approximately $85 million The five SEATTLE stations include Adult Standards KIXI-A, Top 40/Mainstream KQMV, News KKNW-A, AC KRWM and Hot AC KLCK. The five PHOENIX stations are Classic Rock KSLX, Active Rock KUPD, Rock KDKB, Oldies KAZG-A and Sports KDUS-A.
“This is an exciting opportunity to expand HUBBARD RADIO into two top-20 markets,” HUBBARD RADIO Board Chair VIRGINIA (GINNY) MORRIS said. “We have known and respected the RAU/WHITE family, SANDUSKY’s owners, for many years. We admire what they have accomplished and we are honored that they would agree to sell us these established stations. We are committed to maintaining the dedication to excellence and to community that SANDUSKY has made such an important part of their radio operations.”
“HUBBARD is excited about the chance to add these great stations to our existing operations in CHICAGO, WASHINGTON, DC, MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, ST. LOUIS and CINCINNATI,” HUBBARD Pres./CEO BRUCE REESE stated. “SANDUSKY runs very successful radio stations, and we plan on continuing that precedent. We look forward to working with our new colleagues.” REESE added that he expects no programming or personnel changes for any of the acquired stations.
“HUBBARD RADIO, a private family-owned business, holds very similar values as our business,” SANDUSKY RADIO Pres. NORMAN D. RAU said. “HUBBARD has nine family members directly involved in the HUBBARD companies. We believe the future of our listeners, employees and our customers could not be in better hands. As a significantly larger broadcasting company, HUBBARD can give the SANDUSKY stations a potential for growth and scale that SANDUSKY on its own just could not give them.”
The sale ends SANDUSKY’s 36-year history as a radio broadcaster and allow it to concentrate on the continuing digital transformation of its local print and online newspaper and marketing franchises.

ParticipantDid anyone already mention that 102.9 KNBQ became KYNW recently. Well I just did. 😉 Also, this afternoon Seattle DXing was particularly good for a while and my Eugene tuner detected HD1 & HD2 on KYNW, but couldn’t get a lock. First time I’ve detected Seattle IBOC here in Eugene.

ParticipantIt’s apparently not on this thread. KNBQ jettisoned its KJR Sports simulcast in favor of the current offering, which has been described variously as CHR, Adult CHR and Hot AC.

Participant97.3, the former KNBQ, has been KIRO FM for awhile now. Newstalk.

ParticipantThat’s true. After about 20 years as Oldies KBSG, the former KNBQ became KIRO-FM. Quite some time ago, 102.9 decided to revive the old 97.3 calls for its Country offering, which they kept for the KJR simulcast.

ParticipantThis from “Tom Taylor NOW”:
Candy & Potter and “Kristin the Island Girl” once spent time at Seattle CHR “Kiss 106.1” KBKS, then went on to other markets – and are now hired by programmer Mike Preston at Seattle’s fast-takeoff rhythmic AC “Hot 103.7,” which is Entercom’s KHTP.
Candy & Potter, both Seattle-area natives, will do mornings. They’d also worked in the market at country KMPS (94.1), in Charlotte at Greater Media’s hot AC WLNK (107.9), and most recently in Madison at Mid-West Family’s country “106.3” WWQM.
“Kristin the Island Girl” handled middays at Seattle’s Kiss from 2001 to 2009 – and that’s the shift she’ll take at Hot 103.7.
Entercom converted adult alternative “Mountain” KMTT to rhythmic AC on August 30 – and “Hot” has been tearing up the ratings ever since, growing 2.2-4.6-4.8 with age 6+ AQH share. It’s now tied for third place.
