If you plan on ever taking a domestic flight in the future and do not have a passport, you need to upgrade your Motor Vehicle Driver’s License or ID to the new Real ID.

The DMV Oregon which in the past has sent you a renewal notification before your current License or ID expires appears to be either behind or waiting until after your expiration date to send you a notice.

You can renew a regular license online starting next month, but if you wish to upgrade to a Real ID you must make an appointment at the DMV. When I made my appointment the third week in March, the wait time was about two months, depending on location.

Oregon law enforcement has agreed to a rolling citation moratorium for expired DMV documents for those caught in the big delay and catch up period the details of which can be found at

My Oregon driver’s license is good until 2025, so I guess I’ll just use my passport until then to fly, starting October 1.

I suppose I should get one, in case I have to go to a funeral or something.

The Feds have pushed back enforcement of Real ID again until May, 2023, not surprisingly. You’ll still be able to use your old (but not expired) driver’s license to fly until then.
