Now living down in the valley in Eugene market territory, I flipped on to some of the Portland stations Wednesday to see how badly it was(n’t) snowing. Noticed a lot of new faces on KGW and KOIN.
Thought a thread for this stuff might have a place here.
Anyone know how many people have left since Gannett took over KGW?
Portland has always been a more transitional market (atleast compared with Seattle), where talent tend to come and go, with a few exceptions. I’m not sure the ownership changes have all that much to do with it. I had heard that Gannett was actually beefing up in Seattle, can’t speak for PDX. (Seattle is now one of Gannett’s largest markets, so I would expect they would treat it seriously.)
However, even the old venerable Seattle is changing, due to attrition mainly, as three major anchors have either died or have retired in the past year+. Kathi, Dan, and Jean.
EDIT: Sorry, too provincial. Kathi Goertzen KOMO (died in 2012), Dan Lewis KOMO (retired this year), and Jean Enerson KING (retired this year).
