What’s the deal with OPB duplicating programming on its x.1 and x.2 channels every(?) weekend? Seems like it takes a special kind of stupid to come up with that idea.March 18, 2017 at 12:50 pm #28024nosignalallnoiseParticipant

Beg-a-thon time again. They like to duplicate their programming during beg-a-thons for some reason. It’s anybody’s guess as to why.
What they SHOULD be doing is having begathonitis on –01 and carry their normal schedule on –02, pre-empting their ancillary programming schedule that would otherwise be on –02 until it’s over (since it’s mostly redundancy of the –01 programming anyways, just on a different schedule.) But that would actually make sense.
Before I continue, I’d like to invite you to call pdxradio right now and contribute during this week’s pledge drive. It’s only through your support that fine posts like this can be brought into your home. Just take a moment, right now, and think about the value that this site provides in your life. For your $150 pledge, you get this great jerry1949 tote bag; it’s just so adorable. When you give at the $200 level, we’ll send you this great CD, Chris Taylor Sings the Blues. At the $400-and-up level we’ll send you both of those plus if you’re one of the first 1000 callers to pledge at this level you’ll get Missing KSKD’s new 1200-page hardcover book “Ain’t That Meta?: Closet Confessions of an Open Geek”. Which won’t even be available in stores until November: this is an exclusive gift that we secured in advance from Addison Wesley specifically for this pledge drive. Each copy is hand-autographed by the author himself. That’s our thank-you gift to you. So please, pick up the phone right now and make your contribution. Because if you don’t, we’ll just be back next week for more. Thanks for your support.

Welcome to today’s OPB. It’s always like this. You’d be lucky to find any mortal being with any idea why they do things the way they do. Chances are somebody was probably drunk or stoned 10 years ago when they came up with the idea, and it became codified into their bylaws.
I think they do a lot of this random shit “just to be different”. Which sometimes works to their detriment. Remember their result in the national EAS test a few years ago, and what caused it to happen that way?September 8, 2017 at 7:27 am #31739nosignalallnoiseParticipant

This is a bit reminiscent of the cancellation of “Homegrown Jazz” on KMHD. Originally, the show broadcast from the band room at Mount Hood Community College. When KMHD moved to its new studios at the OPB building, the only space there large enough for the show’s needs was the television studio. OPB had some rule on the books that prohibited volunteers from having access to the television studio without paid staff present. (I don’t fully understand why KMHD was not allowed to continue using the Mount Hood Community College and then deliver the program to KMHD’s studio either through some type of an IP device or on removable media, such as tape.)
