Translator K279BO 103.7 Portland is on the air with a new country format called “Tailgate Country”. It is operated by iHeartMedia, and is rebroadcasting KFBW-HD3. The translator is owned by EMF (Klove, Air1) and was formerly on 96.3 in Portland.October 10, 2014 at 5:05 pm #2825
I’m sorry. I guess I could just listen to it but are you saying it’s a new Country station because it wasn’t there before or that its format is “New Country”? The name almost sounds like it could be “Classic Country”. It should be noted that KFBW-HD3 wasn’t there yesterday either.October 10, 2014 at 5:17 pm #2826field_strengthParticipant
Both. The station is new, and they are airing a Hot Country format (as in New Country music)October 10, 2014 at 5:54 pm #2827
OK, I listened. They’re promoting the fact that they don’t have any commercials! This seems like a strange business model. It could shave a point from the other Country stations and improve IHeart’s overall performance but it seems odd not to have a direct benefit i.e. they can’t sell it!October 10, 2014 at 6:04 pm #2828Alfredo_TParticipant
102.3 also boasted no commercials when it first signed on. I think that this is a gimmick.October 10, 2014 at 8:39 pm #2829big89Participant
According to the Ibiquity contracts, if you run commercials on an HD2 or HD3 channel, they get a portion of the income. For Having the HD1 signal they just charge a flat, one time licensing fee.October 10, 2014 at 8:41 pm #2830big89Participant
Probably just trying to pull numbers away from KUPL and KWJJ. If they can reduce competitions overall ratings, in effect it increases their market share.October 11, 2014 at 10:30 pm #2831the_radio_guyParticipant
Where is the website for the new 103.7?October 12, 2014 at 12:51 am #2832W7PATParticipant
I listened to 103.7 going out to Hillsboro today. Another station started cutting in at about downtown Hillsboro. On my way back to Aloha, I listened to it on the HD-3 signal. It kept cutting out all the way back home. Either they are having troubles on the HD side or it is real low power.October 12, 2014 at 12:56 am #2833
The other station is probably KNRQ. See my entry in “Towers & Such”.October 12, 2014 at 1:38 am #2834itsvernParticipantOctober 14, 2014 at 10:21 pm #2835msndrspdxParticipant
I find the name Tailgate Country rather interesting. People who tailgate at football games generally don’t play country music!

Interestingly enough, searching for “103.7 Tailgate Country”, without the quotes, on either Google or Bing gives this thread as the top result.
Others include another thread on another board and stations in other markets.
