Yesterday, I heard a story on KOMO 1000 about the Senate hearings on exploding airbags supplied by Takata to various Japanese and US automakers. Takata’s senior VP for quality assurance, Hiroshi Shimizu, was questioned (I would not want his job), as well as victims of the defective airbags. So far, the vehicle recalls have been limited to hot and humid regions that include Florida, Hawaii, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Despite the pointed questioning, Shimizu’s answers were somewhat evasive, and he did not support extending the recall nationwide.
