I thought Andy Barber was one of the original Kyte people in ’77.
Thanks much for sharing this aircheck. He was indeed the “great” Andy Barber, as described above. Of all the fun-to-listen-to personalities on “KING Musicradio 11” back during my high school and college days in Seattle, I remember him the most. Those were THE days of Top 40 AM radio, for sure.
Andy Barber did not start at KYTE until August 1978. The KYTE Station Composite aircheck previously posted has Ron Leonard saying “Welcome to Portland Andy”.
Steve, yes finally had some time to listen to your most recent Barber aircheck. I have several old tapes from that era. It occurs to me what made him so good was really three things: High energy, great voice, and creative thoughts. Those are three elements that made jocks of his genre stand out no doubt about it.
Interesting fact: the original KYTE calls were assigned to 1290 am in Pocatello, Idaho on 12-20-1956. Later changed to KSNN now known as KOUU.
