KVDO call letters returning to Oregon

Many people today remember KVDO Channel 3, but it was Salem’s first licensed TV station. The call sign later moved to a TV station in Houston, Texas; one that in recent years has been the subject of a bitter dispute. At the request of veteran broadcaster Ken Lewetag, the FCC has decided to return the call letters to Oregon. “from anther radio forum)

Effective September 1, 2015, TV station K38KU-D will become KVDO-LD.

This adds to NWTV’s KWVT (orgianally KECH22), and rescuing KSLM (formally a radio channel in Salem) call sign in Salem

I believe the company that has KWVT, still has or had a CP for a translators out in Astoria & Tillamook, but so far neither have been built. We have several that have never came on out here. It is cool to have KVDO back in Oregon. I do remember channel 3, as I used to watch them in the 70s from Hillsboro.

I remember the original KVDO. They had studios on Portland Road in Salem in a building decorated with their good looking TV3 logo. OPB bought them out and moved it to Bend, where it still is today.

By the way…where is the new KVDO located? Does KWVT own it?
