COMMUNITY TRANSLATOR NETWORK, LLC, debtor-in-possession, has closed on the sale of K294CP/ROSEBURG, OR to SALEM MEDIA OF OREGON, INC. for $45,000. The buyer plans to move the translator to rebroadcast Religion KPDQ-A (TRUETALK 800)/PORTLAND, OR.

ParticipantThey are popping up everywhere. Both KKOR 1230 Astoria and KSWB Seaside both have them now. We lost 4 signals here in the past few months. Gospel Echo that relays KPDQ sold 103.5, 105.9 went off also rel, a Spanish rel station on 90.5 went off, and the 4th was a pirate on 104.9 that was there for years. The guy either got tired of running it, or was told to shut it down. I think we claimed to have a couple watts.

ParticipantIt will be interesting to see where they hope to put said service. The only close in opening is on 94.3 which was abandoned by Freeform Beaverton due to objections from KZZR Government Camp which has heavy bleed outside their FCC 60 dBu in Beaverton. As you move SW and SSW towards Newborn they might find something they can use, probably with a DA to protect the congestion in the Portland metro. Hopefully they aren’t pipe dreaming about anything more then that.

ParticipantIMHO, KLOO has a fair listener base in the Portland suburbs, likely that will be shutdown or moved quickly.

ParticipantI just did terrain profiles from KLOO to Portland East Side and Portland West Side. Both proposals are implementing highly directional antennae with most of their energy pointed NE. KLOO on the east side will clobber them handily. Coverage on the west side would be good where KLOO is partially blocked by the Tualatin hills except for the fact that both proposals are directional away from that direction to make it work.
I agree with jr tech, whomever gets the CP between the two will probably not be happy with its performance.
Not to mention that Alpha needs a “fill in” translator for KXTG like bacon needs a second asshole. It’s blatant abuse of the translator rules in their case. KPDQ AM would be helped but again, KLOO is a Class C whose 60 dBu contour almost reaches the Portland metro and where their proposed coverage will be best is at the top of the West Hills ridge where precious few people live.

ParticipantKPDQ already has an FM, it’s called KPDQ-FM. If they want their AM programming on FM they should probably start simulcasting again.
