From Tom Taylor Now this morning….
Looks like Salem is LMAing Portland, Oregon’s KPAM/860 – an intriguing development, since Pamplin is in the middle of selling it to Tron Dinh Do’s Intelli LLC, which specializes in Vietnamese programming. Intelli’s actually buying both Pamplin AMs, KPAM Troutdale and KKOV Vancouver, Washington/1550. It’s paying $1.2 million (October 25 NOW). We deduce the Salem LMA from a quote by Salem Senior VP Phil Boyce about KPAM being “our newest talk station.” That’s contained in a Compass Media Networks release about the Joe Pags daily talk show signing KPAM as its hundredth affiliate.January 11, 2018 at 10:05 am #34128
During this morning’s KPAM newscast, I heard a liner that said that KPAM is a service of Salem Media Group.January 12, 2018 at 10:53 pm #34160
When I was at Salem Comm 10 years ago they had then 7 studios for 5 stations…3 FM’s and now 4 AM’s…don’t know if they did a build out with undeveloped office space. Know 3 of the AM’s have no live programming thus no studio needed. Just wonder where they put KPAM. Say field trip.January 15, 2018 at 2:46 am #34185
One change that has recently taken place is that Dave Ramsey is no longer on KPAM, being replaced by Michael Medved. Ramsey is now on KUFO at 9:00 AM.January 15, 2018 at 12:46 pm #34186
If KPAM is LMA’d to Salem, perhaps they’ll be included in the ratings.January 16, 2018 at 8:33 pm #34215
The KPAM website hasn’t been touched since the change.January 17, 2018 at 10:47 am #34219
What happened to Tim Hohl?January 18, 2018 at 6:37 pm #34240
Tim is the owner of Coin Toss Brewing in Oregon City, and that’s his full-time gig now.January 18, 2018 at 8:01 pm #34242
They updated their program schedule (see http://www.kpam.com/common/page.php?pt=On-Air-Schedule&id=80 ), but the “On Air Now” images have not been updated.January 20, 2018 at 1:38 am #34256
sunny1550.com no longer streams Americas Best Music. May be a temporary glitch, or perhaps the beginning of the end.January 20, 2018 at 5:34 pm #34259
“Now Playing” on the Sunny 1550 Web page is stuck on “Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again” by The Fortunes. While this is apropos for Portland, it is not the song currently playing on the station.January 26, 2018 at 12:00 pm #34370
“This from the Craig Adams News Service.
Sources tell me the KPAM/KKOV sale may not happen. This was revealed before Christmas on December 22nd.” The sale has been approved by the FCC. If it doesn’t go through, it won’t be because of that.January 26, 2018 at 12:12 pm #34374
KPAM-AM spot load is still good. In fact, this is the first year in a long time for both radio and television after 1 January sales haven’t fallen off a cliff and we are all subjected Help Save Whales, Peruvian Children or Baby Seals commercials and PSAs,March 6, 2018 at 8:24 am #35346
From Tom Taylor’s Newsletter this morning…
Salem confirms our hunch of two months ago, that it’s LMAing two AMs in Portland, Oregon. We said “that’s an intriguing development, since Pamplin Broadcasting’s in the middle of selling to Tron Dinh Do’s Intelli LLC, which specializes in Vietnamese programming” (January 11 NOW). Instead, Salem issues a press release that says “KPAM is alive and well.” That’s KPAM Troutdale/860, which Salem announced in January as “our newest talk station.” Now we get the lineup, with drive-time shows “First Edition” from 6am to 10am and “Afternoon Northwest from 3pm to 6pm. KPAM’s also using Clark Howard, Todd Schnitt, Michael Medved and “Joe Pags” Pagliarulo. There’s also hourly news, traffic and weather. While sister KKOV Vancouver, Washington/1550 is adult standards. Neither one is Vietnamese. Pamplin signed the deal to sell KPAM/KKOV to Intelli LLC last October, but didn’t actually file it at the FCC until January 23 – a couple of weeks after we think Salem began its LMA.
