Was this really ever in doubt? I remember hearing Taurus way back in the control room at WSAN early in my radio career and noted the similarity. However, similarity in music is a given and does not constitute a violation of copyright. Transcriptions of music that was written by ear only confuse the issue. What I see in this case is just a greedy trustee of Randy California’s estate trying to make himself some coin. Chord progressions are used over and over in many songs, some chords get dropped sometimes or flatted or suspended, but the bottom line is that a lot of songs have very similar structures musically but that doesn’t make it a “rip off.” The jury got this one right. The last thing they did before their decision was listen to the music. There you go.
