Fans of jazz will be saddened to hear that Jimmy Mak’s has closed its doors and that Jim Makarounis, the owner, died of cancer about 24 hours later. I first heard the story reported in a KPAM interview this morning.

Here is a Willammette Week story: http://www.wweek.com/uncategorized/2017/01/02/jimmy-maks-owner-jim-makarounis-has-died/

Mak had a great ear for jazz and his place was a wonderful venue. Like Jazz de Opus from the 1970’s & 80’s that was located in Old Town.

Like Brasserie Montmartre downtown from ’78 through the 90’s.

There was another incarnation of Brasserie Montmartre that lasted until a few year ago. I loved their French onion soup!
