Isn’t Amazon supposed to buy J.C. Penny? I read that somewhere….
No, they were (maybe still are) eyeballing buying the AMC Theatres (former Crappetopia) sinking ship from the communist Chinese government. They did buy out Whole Paycheck a couple years ago.
You probably read it here: .https://feedback.pdxradio.com/forums/topic/the-all-new-pdx-radio-corporate-deathwatch/page/10/#post-46498
We used to have a JC Penny in Astoria. They closed after being there for 101 years! One of the anchor stores in downtown. Since Sears closed, not a lot in Astoria now. Everyone shops in Warrenton at Walmart, Fred Meyer, Costco, Home Depot.
The nearest Penny’s is Kelso WA. There is also one in McMinnville.
Clark County has sways had two JCPenney stores.
The first ones were in Downtown Vancouver and Downtown Camas.
Around 1981 the Downtown store closed. Then moved to Vancouver Mall and Camas location closed later in 1980’s.
Than some years ago a freestanding JCPenney opened in Far East Vancouver.
The Kelso/Longview store opened around 1987. And is the only store left at Three Rivers Mall.
Then some years ago a freestanding JCPenney opened in Vancouver’s lower east side.
I want to say it opened sometime around 2005 or 2006ish. It was one of the first major stores along with Home De-Pot and WallyWorld to open in English Pit. The Sonic Burger across the access road opened VERY shortly thereafter!
It’s actually not a terribly old store.
