Former San Francisco Radio Host Reportedly Missing In KentuckyNovember 29, 2018 at 7:56 pm #40299
I am so sorry to read this. Ray was an institution at KGO for many years. Before that he was a KNEW. When KGO changed in 2009, I was shocked and I have never listened since. KGO’s talk shows were great. There is nothing like Ray’s show since. I sure hope he is found safe. Prayers.November 30, 2018 at 10:59 am #40310Alfredo_TParticipant
I had always pictured Ray Taliaferro as being much younger. Sadly, I seldom listen to KGO since it laid off many of its hosts in 2011. Hearing Coast to Coast AM and Red Eye Radio on 810 is like a dagger through the heart.November 30, 2018 at 1:12 pm #40311
I totally agree. KGO used to be #1 or #2 in the ratings and after the switch in 2009, the ratings dropped like a rock. The last ratings book I checked, KGO was like #22. After they switched there were protests and complaints all over the SF area, but the company could care less. The way the suits from the East came in and threw every one out was disgusting.December 1, 2018 at 12:49 am #40318semoochieParticipant
KGO was a victim of the PPM. The diary exaggerated time spent listening and lower ratings in saleable demos made it hard to justify the higher salaries. It was just a matter of time anyway. GenX has very little interest in Talk Radio and the clock is ticking on its core audience.December 1, 2018 at 5:28 am #40321
With talk radio in general, we have more than enough. There is a lot of it streaming. That was not available back years ago. Now we have talk shows on MSNBC, FOX, CNN, etc. So lots of TV talk too.December 4, 2018 at 1:59 am #40360Craig_AdamsParticipant

Body of Former KGO/San Francisco Host Ray Taliaferro Found In Kentucky
The body of former KGO-A/SAN FRANCISCO host and ABC O&O KGO-TV anchor RAY TALIAFERRO has been found in PADUCAH, KY, reports the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE. TALIAFERRO, 79, the host of KGO radio’s overnight show from 1977 through 2011, went missing on NOVEMBER 10th and was last seen about a mile from where he was found dead in a wooded area near BROOKS STADIUM.
Son RAPHAEL TALIAFERRO issued a statement reading, “It is with great sadness that the TALIAFERRO family has to announce the passing of RAY TALIAFERRO. His body was found in PADUCAH, KENTUCKY in a wooded area approximately a mile from where he was last seen. The family appreciates the support and help we received in our search for RAY. This is a devastating ending to our search for him over these past weeks. The family is in the process of working with the police to learn the matters surrounding his death. At this time, we are processing this turn of events and ask for privacy as we work through our loss.”
RAY TALIAFERRO served as the head of the SAN FRANCISCO chapter of the NAACP in 1968-71 and started in talk radio at KNEW-A/SAN FRANCISCO in 1967 and did television work at KHJ-TV/LOS ANGELES and KRON-TV/SAN FRANCISCO.December 4, 2018 at 11:34 am #40363Alfredo_TParticipant
Now, I am even sadder in that Ray’s life ended in this way.December 4, 2018 at 8:21 pm #40365
That is a very sad ending indeed. The man had quite a career and for it to end this way is tragic. I wonder how he died, fowl play or natural causes?
