Right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh claimed on his show Monday that the potentially lethal coronavirus afflicting several countries is nothing more than a “common cold” blown out of proportion by the media to take down President Donald Trump ― even as he also asserted it was a “bioweapon” created by China in a laboratory.
“It looks like the coronavirus is being weaponized as yet another element to bring down Donald Trump,” Limbaugh said at the start of his lengthy, misinformation-filled rant.
“Now, I want to tell you the truth about the coronavirus. … I’m dead right on this. The coronavirus is the common cold, folks.”February 26, 2020 at 2:16 pm #44502
Clearly when you (still) have a large audience (nowhere what it used to be, see “ratings”) is, IMO, not in anyone’s best interest to downplay a world wide health threat in the way depicted in the previous post when the downplayer has zero credentials in the area of viruses and worldwide health concerns.
It’s just terribly irresponsible.

I haven’t listened to Limbaugh for more than 10 years, but based on the previous post quoting him, that’s pretty sick. I’m surprised even though it’s Limbaugh.
When did the common cold start killing masses of people?February 26, 2020 at 2:45 pm #44505
trump is being every bit as irresponsible by saying news networks CNN and MSNBC are using the threat of the coronavirus to hurt the stock market and thereby hurting his chances for re-election. His continued attacks on the media not named Fox News is destroying the trust people have in the media, who play a vital role in providing information in the event of a national crisis.February 26, 2020 at 4:36 pm #44508
With the two mediums you referred to running primarily only negative news about Trump and maybe only as much as 5% positive news, I’d say they’ve set themselves up to be fair game for any sort of attack.February 26, 2020 at 4:45 pm #44510VitalogyParticipant
Maybe if Trump wasn’t such a terrible president there would be more good news to report.February 26, 2020 at 5:28 pm #44511
Which is also 5% more positive news than Fox ran about Obama when he was president.
You might call it “negative” news but that’s only because you’re a supporter. To the rest of us a large amount what they have reported is simply news about trump and his band of criminals. Remember all those indictments and guilty pleas handed down during Obama’s presidency? I don’t either. Those didn’t start until your guy took over.February 26, 2020 at 6:57 pm #44512
The problem isn’t that the current POTUS is an unethical, corrupt criminal dirt bag – everyone knows that.
The problem is that the Republicans in Congress and his supporters don’t care.February 26, 2020 at 8:15 pm #44513paulwalkerParticipant
Yes, Andy. And after that mess of a democratic debate last night, (really awful and painful for this viewer), this is exactly why Trump will be re-elected.
I have been saying this for over a year now. The democrats don’t have a winning strategy, pure and simple.

Paul, the Republican debates in February of 2016 were just as messy, and Trump got elected, so that kind of blows that theory out of the water.
Are you thinking that the Democrats can’t win because they refuse to campaign like Trump?February 27, 2020 at 10:14 am #44519
I don’t know what Paul might be thinking, but I think it’s pretty obvious the Democrats are being set up for failure on the election.
Watch the Sanders chance fall dramatically apart when people start to seriously ask what’s it going to cost and where is it going to come from. I believe Bernie’s most recent 10 year figure from himself is $52 Billion. You can be sure it will be more than that when the experts put a pencil to it.
It will be demonstrated that it’s not possible to provide free college, forgiveness of all student debt, Medicare for all, etc., etc. When you take these promises away from him, let alone his leaning toward Communist Socialism, what does he bring to the table?
That’s all going to come out and then some during the period leading up to the general election. This is going to be one classic FAIL.
I’ll say it again. Bernie Sanders will not be the next President of the United States.February 27, 2020 at 10:30 am #44520missing_kskdParticipant
Yet we literally blew tons more money to fund wars of choice…February 27, 2020 at 10:49 am #44522
May be true, but it doesn’t make an iota of difference what’s been done in the past. If we were to start making a list of every stupid thing our government has done in the past, we’d quickly run out of paper. It won’t have an effect on anything in this election. Bernie will be taken down when it starts to be showcased what his preposterous positions really are. Trump has already been sliced and diced 6 ways from Sunday with no ill effect. Not much new to throw at him.
The reasons the GOP is keeping still now and not attacking him is that they want him to be the candidate so there’s a lot of low hanging fruit to pick. Make it an easy election. The interesting thing is that the Democrats see it the same way. Oops!February 27, 2020 at 2:59 pm #44531semoochieParticipant
I see, so supporting murderous dictators are OK but socialism is not?February 27, 2020 at 3:14 pm #44533
If trump continues to incompetently and dangerously bumble his way through the coronavirus threat then any one of the democrat candidates will make him a 1 term president.
