Licensed for 500 Watts nights. Had been broadcasting at the old KBND transmitter site in SE Bend. An 1110 kc quarter lambda antenna does strange things to a 1340 kc signal contour (straight up) and we all remember what the old KBNW skywave was like. 1340 kc is known as a graveyard frequency because there are sooo many small Class C stations there. Rumor is 100 Watt Nautel transmitter and a long wire (straight up / down and out on two sides) from the Corporate office on 4th Street east of downtown Bend. Has 4,000 http://www.tunein.com followers. “FM News Radio” KBNW AM signal won’t be coming back any time soon.
W7PAT: What was the day contour like?June 18, 2017 at 2:57 pm #30038
Day time was fine, just couldn’t hear it at night. Of course the FM makes up for that problem.July 6, 2017 at 11:14 am #30413

“TOOL SHED PDX is assigning KSQI/MADRAS, OR to ROGUE RADIO for no consideration. The assignor had to divest KSQI after winning a construction permit for a low power FM.”
KSQI is either an orphan or a wandering Jew. Original Tool Shed PDX Application, subsequent Construction Permits and Special Temporary Authorizations for the old KWLZ-FM (Warm Springs) frequency (96.5 MHz) and ERP (100 kW) had two Call Signs, three different locations and power levels. Seems current Applicant Rogue Radio now has the CP and STA for 1.8 kW east of Madras midway on the Madras – Prineville Highway. Rogue Radio are three individuals (Grants Pass – OR / Castaic – CA / Reno – NV), appear to have no broadcast properties although one owner had been the now defunct commonfrequency.org.
Tool Shed PDX never had intentions to operate and was squatting 96.5 hoping for a flip for cash. Seemed like a good idea. But after three years, transfers the App to another group hoping for a flip for cash.
Across most of the United States, radio revenues are good or are improving and so are property valuations. This may all change when Clear Channel / iHeart Radio craters.
