The fracas in and near Burns brings to mind the AM-FM station there. I understand it is no longer on the air. Anyone know what happened. Anyone attempt to put it back on the air? How come John Day station survives but this one does not?January 4, 2016 at 4:30 pm #16890mwdxer1Participant
They are off the air? The last time I heard the owner had a CP to move to 1210 with 12KW day and lp at night. Wasn’t that built?January 4, 2016 at 8:25 pm #16896
DUE TO THE UNAVAILABILITY OF PERSONNEL AND THE ABSENCE OF THE OWNER OUT OF THE COUNTRY, THE STATIONS TEMPORARILY WENT SILENT AS OF OCTOBER 31, 2015.
(Both the AM & FM)
No they didn’t build the 1210 facilities.January 4, 2016 at 9:06 pm #16898paulwalkerParticipant
This is just another sad story of the decline of a once great industry. That being said, Bend, and Portland stations, if they have not already, should move in and be the conduit for coverage.January 4, 2016 at 10:04 pm #16899mwdxer1Participant
That is indeed sad. I remember the old KRNS 1230 back in the 70s.January 5, 2016 at 12:45 am #16901semoochieParticipant
I tried to get a job there in the 70s. I asked someone where the station was and they had no idea that Burns had a radio station! That was 40 years ago. What must it be like now? By the way, we have thread for this: Central & Eastern Oregon Radio HappeningsJanuary 5, 2016 at 1:46 am #16904
They were a good country station. And for a 1230, they could be heard 75 miles away. Not bad!
The John Day station was much newer and more elaborate then I thought. Think the owner there was well to do. Station had modern technology and tons of CD’s. They didn’t get out too far though. Days 25 miles. Nights, about 10 miles.January 5, 2016 at 3:19 pm #16920BorderblasterParticipant

Good place for FM translators (I prefer the word “repeater”) from Portland and Bend.January 6, 2016 at 3:03 am #16932
Wow! Now we have Lakeview and Burns with no radio stations. Large area. Wish I was DXing there. For awhile, at least. Then, Scotty. Beam me back home!January 6, 2016 at 3:09 am #16933
No wonder why the Gresmas AM 1230 went off the, I could receive the Cops Bay 1230. Lakeview and Burns were gone!January 6, 2016 at 10:21 am #16940
There’s lots of signals you can hear in Burns. The Boise stations are there an decent radios. Even KJDY-FM is listenable there.January 7, 2016 at 12:48 am #16968
The strongest AM that boomed in at night was 670 KBOI. KJDY FM was pretty good too. Others were Boise 580 & 1140. Hard to catch 630 though. 780 in Reno was a boomer too at times. 1510, 920, & 590 in Spokane came in nice as well.January 7, 2016 at 12:54 pm #16995
Locally radio wise they have the choice of OPB & religious. The LP FM seems to be locally owned. Wikipedia says it’s religious music.January 8, 2016 at 12:39 am #17021
Must either listen to radio at night or go loony. I am trying to remember what came in during the daytime besides the local stations? Think in Burns 670 did. 1380 kind of did In Lakeview 570 boomed in. And 780 kind of did. 960 in K. Falls did too. But only during the middle of the day.
