I finally had a chance to watch the new documentary Amy about the short career of Amy Winehouse. I would not recommend this documentary to anybody who is overly sensitive or anybody who has recently lost a loved one to addiction, due to the graphic subject matter. However, I do think that the producers of the film executed it with class by focusing on how Winehouse’s life inspired the lyrics of her best known songs, rather than by sensationalizing the tragedy in her life.

By the end of the film, I really disliked Mitch Winehouse (Amy’s father), and I was left with a lingering suspicion that Amy’s death from alcohol poisoning was really a suicide, rather than an accident. Of course, nobody will ever really know what Amy was thinking and feeling as she started on her final drinking binge.
