Why do the Russians not like Obama?

  1. Serious question. He hasn't done anything to them. When a Russian newscaster flips him the bird on live TV, that would sort of indicate some descension. Can you imagine even Dan Rather stooping that far when he read stories about Bush.

I'd think that would elevate him in your eyes. Don't all of the RWNJ's/TeaBaggers/Fear-Anger Radio Clown Posse think that he's in bed with the Russians? I mean, being a Marxist-Socialist-Communist and all?

    Anybody buying this?:

the newsreader had believed she was off camera at the time and merely providing a voice-over for a report. According to the same storyline, the rude gesture was intended for studio technicians who had been trying to put her off her stride.

She looked up at the camera several times while she was reading... would she do that if she thought she was off camera? On the other hand, we don't know what was happening behind the camera.

More importantly, why is anyone making a big deal out of this?

  5. Do you even read the news stories you post, Deane?

"The channel, which goes out to 120 million people across Russia, has declined to comment. But sources close to it have tried to defuse the row by claiming that the newsreader had believed she was off camera at the time and merely providing a voice-over for a report. According to the same storyline, the rude gesture was intended for studio technicians who had been trying to put her off her stride.

REN TV has traditionally been perceived as a more liberal channel in a country where TV content is tightly controlled by the state. But it is now controlled by structures owned by a close ally of Vladimir Putin, the prime minister, and has been criticized for allegedly becoming more slavish to the Kremlin".

The explanation provided may or may not be true. However, having worked in both radio and television studios I don't find the explanation to be all that difficult to believe.

And even a cursury examination of REN's ownership, editoral staff, programming line-up, reveal a liberal, and pro-Western style, type of news station; which is actually often at political loggerheads with much of the state controlled media.

Regardless, how does one arrive at the conclusion "Russians don't like Obama" from this news story? It’s entirely anecdotal and specific to an individual.

I find your reasoning flawed, at best.

  6. Having attempted over the years to get some of my broadcasting cohorts to "lose it" while live on the air, and was successful a couple of times (Bryan O'Neal and Glynn Shannon come to mind), it appears to me that she is practicing before actually recording or going live.

Behind the scenes stuff happens all the time and I think she is reacting to it. The timing of the "Bird" after Obama's name seems coincidental.

Still wondering...Who really gives a rat's ass? Especially since we have no idea about what's said, gestured and suggested off-mic by the 24/7/365 Obama Hate Machine. I'm sure that their off-camera quips and quotes are much more graphic and disrespectful.

It's not a big deal, but it sure sets you Obama lovers off.

I didn't state who the morons on the forum are, but I notice you included yourself.

Yes, that seems to happen in every thread you start, Deane, before anyone has even responded...

  14. I asked you a series of reasonable questions and you are unable to offer a cojent reply to, Deane.

    Who's the moron?

  16. It has literally nothing to do with being pro or against Obama.

Either Dean is being willfully ignorant or he’s truly does not understand the distinction.

I would have asked the same questions of Deane and arrived at the same conclusions had he posted the headline “Why do Russians hate Bush”? (Of course with the appropriate names changed, etc.)

There’s no proof supporting such an assertion. It’s poorly reasoned, badly framed, and factually unsupportable from the information provided within the story. I.e. He’s just making things up again.

While I can (somewhat) understand Deane continually assuming that when someone is compelled to correct and/or challenge his innumerable misstatements or deliberate distortion of fact as a politically motivated device, that’s simply not the case.

I’d still enjoy hearing how one arrived at the conclusion “Russians hate Obama” from that news story. If the explantion provided bv REN is correct it's not even reasonsable to conclude this one, individual news caster hates Obama. Deane?

The notion of wacky behind-the-scenes TV stuff brought to mind an AP News story from the summer of 1989, entitled "Moon Shot."

The gist of the story is that KDKA-TV Channel 2 in Pittsburgh, PA, had a live morning show called "The Wake-Up Show." One day, some DJs from WDVE radio were guests on the show. One of the DJs was intent on making the host of Wake-Up crack-up while live on the air. The DJ pulled down his pants and mooned the Wake-Up guy! Unfortunately, the DJ did not realize that he was in the shot when he pulled this stunt!

I wouldn't be surprised if the animosity shown from the media person in Russia comes from the top. Remember that all media is state-run in Russia, and Putin is slowly and deliberately stripping away the freedoms and privileges of an open society in Russia. He is circumventing the Constitution (or just changing it) to fit his personal agenda. Keep in mind that he was the head of the KGB and has made it known of his disdain and mistrust of the United States.

I trust Vladimir Putin about as far as I can throw him.

So WHO are you supporting THIS month Sky? We can say the same exact thing about all the "FILL IN THE BLANK" supports this month. You guys are a lot more fun than watching Liberal Obama lovers. But I did like watching the DUHbya lovers and minions get there panties in a twist when America rejected their God and found him to be a complete idiot.

Well, jeez Deane. I guess you didn't get the memo that the cold war ended just over 20 years ago.

Now aren't you glad the national CONELRAD test we had a couple weeks ago passed with flying colours?

    Posted on November 23, 2011 - 06:50 PM #
  28. Motozak, we're seeing the cold war begin to heat up a little bit. I hate to see that happen.

I assume guys like Putin need the U. S. to be an enemy so they can have more reason to rule with an iron hand under the guise of national security. Let's see now, where else is it that seems to be going on?

Well, Bush did pretty much the same thing under the guise of "protecting" us with the Patriot Act, which was voted on by Congress and signed at our most vulnerable point right after 9/11.

Putin is a snake. Remember, he was the head of the KGB under Gorbachev after he joined the ranks and quickly rose under Brezhnev, in 1975. He has stripped many rights from the Russian citizens and nationalized much of of the Russian economy and system; he circumvented the Constitution by naming himself Prime Minister and getting his boy Medvedev "voted" in as President (Putin still very much wears the pants in that relationship). Now Putin is "running" for President again. While we don't have the atrocities of the Bolsheviks and the USSR, Putin, remember, is a Bolshevik. This is his vision of Russia, and our relationship.

Well Paul, my point is that it's not just Obama, but ANY POTUS. The Russian media is state-run and censored, and the head of the country is an old Cold War adversary.
