Vit - you just went up several spots in my eyes. I am not a Pearl Jam fan at all but those other three are top notch. Especially Rush God's music!

    Set in stone for me:

    Rush - 2112
    AC/DC - Back In Black
    Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime

there are a bunch that float in and out of the final two spots ... Moving Pictures is one of them, hell MOST Rush albums are.

  4. In no particular order:

    Scorpions - Humanity Hour 1
    Pink floyd - The Wall
    Queensryche - Empire
    Metallica - The Black Album
    Sammy Hagar - Standing Hampton

    Ok here are mine

Led Zeppelin- "Physical Graffiti"- Led Zeppelins best effort.

Guns n Roses- "Use your Illusion 2"- This album is EPIC! Rock and Roll at its greatest! I have bought this cd
probably a total of 4 different times because the cd gets scratched. Its a must have!

Pearl Jam- 10- Yeah their most commercial sounding album, but boy does it rock!

Van Halen-self titled- Diamond dave was better than van Hagar. Too many power ballads with Van Hagar.

So Brian, are you saying that Rush actually put out a bad album because on your post you put "MOST" Rush albums. Please explain.

Having a brain fart, last 2 are coming soon! Im taking the Yugo down to "5 Guys" Im cravin a burger.
    See ya in a few.

The Use Your Illusion franchise was fantastic Bertha ... I remember the hype and disappointment as the release kept getting pushed back, but wow it was SO worth it. November Rain is an absolutely brilliant song, Axl is an ass but wow he is incredibly talented ... and You Can Be Mine flat kicked ass.

Best initial release IMHO - Appetite For Destruction.

Hey Brian Dont forget "estranged" "Coma" and my personal favorite "Locomotive". Slash shreds the guitar on that song, LOVE IT! Im really getting into the "Non hits" from the Illusion albums like "Dead horse" and "coma".

The Who - Live at Leeds. The original album (before re-release on CD with bonus tracks) was a bit spare but that SOUND...wow! I wonder if they were the best rock group in the world in 1970. On YouTube you can find just a few minutes of footage from the Live at Leeds shows. Apparently the cameraman had only a limited amount of film so shot only a few seconds here and there of various songs - how sad! Most of the shots are of Keith Moon and Pete Townshend. Watching Moon at his peak - just WATCHING the guy wail all over the kit - is just mesmerizing to me.

Keith Moon was Neil Peart's main influence growing up.

Hey Andrew or Bryan correct me if Im wrong.

I heard somewhere that "Baba O Riley" was never released as a Single. Yet it's one of the most famous songs from the who. Go figure.

I have no idea whether "Baba O'Riley" was ever released as a single or not - I was four when "Who's Next" came out and I didn't hear the album til years later.

It kind of disgusts me to hear "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" used on TV shows and even the NFL now - Jesus!!! I guess ol' Pete is laughing all the way to the bank. I don't blame him, I suppose.

Well, The Who IS playing the Super Bowl halftime show this year. So yeah, Pete and the boys are rolling in the royalties.

Mr. Townshend probably needs it though to pay the legal bills for fighting off kiddie porn charges.

  13. I must have grown up on a different side of the musical tracks. Rock was not dominant in my early years. But here's what I have and of course all selections are subjective to the mood I'm in at the moment.

    No particular order.

Fulfillingness' First Finale- Stevie Wonder (and pretty much any early Wonder album)
That's The Way of The World- Earth, Wind & Fire
Chicago Transit Authority-Better know as Chicago 1
    Goodbye Yellow Brick Road-Elton John
    Hot August Night-Neil Diamond

My rock vein showed up sometime after college.

"So Brian, are you saying that Rush actually put out a bad album because on your post you put "MOST" Rush albums. Please explain."

I would not say Rush put out a "bad" album, no. I like some more than others, absolutely, and the growth and evolution of the group is apparent in each and every one.

There are some I don't like so much - I have Test For Echo but it is not one I play much ... it would be at the bottom of the Rush list for me. Same with Presto.

There are some not-so-critically acclaimed Rush albums that are at the top of my personal list. For example, I REALLY enjoy Carress Of Steel. Neil has a lot of fun writing light, funny stuff like "Lakeside Park" and "I Think I'm Going Bald", but when he gets into "The Necromancer" and "The Fountain Of Lamneth", that's really Neil's first true prog-rock writing. (By-Tor and the Snowdog can be thrown in I guess from Fly By Night, and that is EPIC). I enjoyed the 80s from Rush, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, Signals, Power Windows, Grace Under Pressure, Hold Your Fire, Roll The Bones ... all outstanding stuff.

And Snakes and Arrows ... God, I can't wait for their next work.

How they are not in the Rock and Roll HOF, I have NO idea.

It ain't "The Who" playing the Super Bowl - it's Pete and Roger and friends. And as I understand it, Pete can't even hear well enough anymore to play guitar worth a damn. The Who was great not just for Pete's songwriting (and his underrated guitar playing, which in the day really was top notch, despite the fact that he wasn't Jimi or Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton) but for that great rhythm section. Not that Keith was keeping time so much as playing his kit as a lead instrument, but he and Entwistle meshed really well together.

It ain't "The Who" without Keith and John anymore than it would be "The Beatles" with just Paul and Ringo.

Well it's been "The Who" for 30 years without Keith sadly. Pete is still pretty much the face of that group, the most recognizable personality. They've been The Who, off and on, for 25 years. Once The Beatles split, that was that. I think that's the difference ... The Who kept moving on, replacing Keith and later John.

  17. "I heard somewhere that "Baba O Riley" was never released as a Single."

It was released as a single in Europe only, not in the U.S. or U.K.

Pete's guitar playing is still right on.

    Oh man, just five?

Rolling Stones – Exile on Main Street
    The Clash - London Calling
Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On
Bob Dylan - Highway 66 Revisted (runner up: Blond on Blonde)
Beatles – Revolver (runner up: the White Album)

    And many, many more....

  19. Subject to change, minute-to-minute:

    1. Bob Dylan, Highway 61 Revisited (or possibly Bringing It All Back Home; I've been going back and forth on those two for years)
    2. The Who, Who's Next
    3. The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper (I respect those who champion Revolver as the band's true masterpiece, but I can't stand "Yellow Submarine")
    4. Bruce Springsteen, Born To Run
    5. The Clash, London Calling

Honorable mention: Led Zep Untitled (IV), Houses of the Holy, and sides 1 & 2 of Physical Graffiti. Also, a good Rolling Stones singles compilation would be a strong contender, though IMHO the band never made a truly great cohesive album.
