Stupid thread from a stupid poster.
Portland is too old to riot like Greece.

What a dick. Guess he's gonna start getting the food with "extra" ingredients.

Yeah. Even if the service sucked and the waitperson (How's that for PC!!) deserved the 1% tip you don't have to add the insult to it.
I've been places where the service sucked and still left a couple of bucks, maybe 5%, but never insulted them with words.
I remember eating at an Olive Garden in Schaumburg, IL, where a group of us ate at least a couple of times a month, and when we arrived at the table there were 3 pennies on it. We jokingly said "Maybe it was the tip from the last group"....By the time we were done with lunch, we were sure it was!

I'm a softie on this stuff. Even when times were really tough, I tipped 10 percent at a minimum. It's a wage for most people, and the truth is the wage pays for kids, rent and other basic stuff.
Extra depends on performance, obviously. That's like a spiff, and I believe in spiffs.
But tipping below? Not cool, unless they do something really ugly, and then I would tell them, not leave some shitty comment. I believe in feedback loops too, and that kind of interaction matters, but people have to do it. Just lobbing one in after the fact is basically crappy.
And I want to hear why it sucked too. Maybe not a direct comment, but just their tone and candor on it will matter.
Pennies, unless put there as an obvious spiff with spare change, makes the patron look bad.
Those people handing out low tips think they are doing a good thing, but not really. Excuse to be cheap, or dickish more than it is anything else.

"I'm a softie on this stuff."
Me too. It has to be REALLY bad before I'll cut the tip.

You know, it won't take much to relieve you of this problem. Seriously. Adding value will get you a long ways. Just posting up shit? Well, you've been around here long enough.

I vote for putting LG on the "Ignore the fool" list until he gets back on his medication.

Listener guy is a pathetic loser. Do society a favor...
Posted on February 28, 2012 - 12:37 AM # -
While I both empathize and support the sentiments driving the Occupy Wall Street protest movement, it should be noted that story is a hoax.
Posted on February 28, 2012 - 04:41 PM # -
Sure enough LG - nice catch. I like to know the truth.
"New developments suggest that the receipt from the restaurant may have been digitally altered. According to the website the Smoking Gun, True Food Kitchen's spokesperson said it found the original merchant copy of the receipt, and the one circulating the Internet was "altered and exaggerated." The original receipt does not contain the tip "Get a real job." Also, the real bill was for $33, not $133, and the tip given was $7, not $1.33."

I was keeping my mouth shut because "sumpin' " seemed rather odd to me about this story. I know a few mean spirited people, but even they probably wouldn't have gone this far...
But as far as tipping goes: I start at 20 percent and depending on service go down from there. I do have a "forgiveness policy" if I get less than desired service because we all have bad days. Plus, watching some of the clowns some of these service workers have to be nice and courteous too, just makes me want to jump up from my seat and defend them....or think of launching one of those cream filled pies as a wake up call.
Posted on February 28, 2012 - 05:12 PM # -
I’m awfully forgiving on that front too, Chris. I regularly tip 20% and have no issue with going higher for exemplary service.
You have to work overtime at being a poor server to screw up your tip with me. That’s a tough proffession; I’ll generally award the somewhat standard 15% even if the service may not have warranted such.
I cannot stand watching other customers abuse wait staff, either.
Bleeding heart, are I.
Posted on February 28, 2012 - 05:38 PM # -
Sure glad it was faked or manipulated. Just seemed unusually bad.
20 is our standard tip as well. It's hard to get me to 10 or 15, and they have to mean it, not just have some bad things happen, on what might be a bad day.

Stupid thread from a Stupid Poster.
It rained and the protestors went back home to the suburbs. Way to protest people.
Saw one crazy old dude doing "intelligence" and reporting some jewish 20 year old kid as the leader to the police and the police took it seriously. Somethings never change, police won't go after their relatives.
You have to wonder about where the money's going when you have police monitoring pdxradio. The insult to personal freedoms aside it's a waste of resources.

You can at least understand why you sound clinically paranoid though, right LG?
Posted on February 28, 2012 - 08:56 PM # -
Rick Santorum's paranoid with his mentioning of the elites. Personalities on local television are paranoid. The Police are paranoid. The KGW van from 1997 is about to break down.
I say the ridiculous things I see and what I saw today was ridiculous.
Posted on February 28, 2012 - 09:02 PM # -
Listener Guy, I have a serious question to ask you.
Exactly what the heck is your problem with me?
Posted on February 28, 2012 - 09:02 PM # -
You force yourself on people and you try to make them guilty of something.
I don't respect you either.
Posted on February 28, 2012 - 09:07 PM # -
Thank you for your answer.
Now, if you don't like me and don't respect me, and you feel I force myself on people and attempt to incite guilt from them, why do you always respond to me? Wouldn't it just be easier to ignore me and not say anything?
These aren't rhetorical questions, BTW. I am just trying to climb aboard your train of thought here.

I think some very good happened in this thread. A story, which could have been quite real considering the state of things, was debunked.
We also learned about how we tip - and by and large we seem to be a group of gracious tippers who understand that being a waitress or waiter in whatever eating establishment they work, deserve kindness and dignity while they serve us, hopefully in the same manner.
Not bad I'd say.
Posted on February 28, 2012 - 09:59 PM # -
The story is still real, the us bank at east portland was vandalized. The police with the assistance of local media wanted entrapment on the downtown of the westside but no one trusts them. NO ONE TRUSTS THE MEDIA so we can kiss a lot of careers goodbye. Police and media were using entrapment and paranoia to justify their job. The behavior I saw was beyond pathetic it was disgusting. False accusation were made against people from a made up event. It was Naziesk, considering the German background of Oregon and the government workers that something they should avoid. Especially when the state biggest private employers rely on trade with Israel. Some people will have to understand they lived a lifestyle way beyond the quality of work they did. Their behavior is insulting to those that provided that lifestyle.

Listener guy-
You lost me on that last post. Not too terribly difficult to do actually.
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 12:15 PM # -
No one trusts you.
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 12:17 PM # -
"No one trusts you. "
Now we KNOW you're off your rocker. Chris is possibly the most honest, trustworthy person in here.
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 12:52 PM # -
Sure you guys are.
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 12:55 PM # -
Would you care to ask my second line of questioning by chance?
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 12:57 PM # -
just like entrapment from a cop
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 12:57 PM # -
What cop is entrapping who?
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 12:59 PM # -
No one trusts you
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 01:00 PM # -
Ok. I'll let others speak to that, if they choose.
Not sure where you get the notion I'm a cop - everyone pretty much knows what I do for work.
So, are you going to answer my questions, or just keep digging your own grave in here?
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 01:02 PM # -
I'm beginning to think that rather than chipping in for a hooker for Listener Guy, maybe we should all chip in for a psychiatric evaluation.
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 01:07 PM # -
What kind of work lets you play with the computer at noon.
This entrapment stuff shows what kind of person you are.
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 01:07 PM # -
OK. Refer to my other post....Now I'm sure of it.
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 01:08 PM # -
Who again am I entrapping?
And I have my work laptop, so I can do remote IT stuff from my store with other stores within our company.
There, happy?

Hey Brian, maybe LG hasn't heard of the term "Smart Phone"!!!
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 01:12 PM # -
Bill - a smart phone is only as smart as the user.
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 01:16 PM # -
Really!
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 01:17 PM # -
Most cops aren't smart that includes you.
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 01:18 PM # -
Stupid thread from a stupid poster trying to get intelligence from a made up event.
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 01:19 PM # -
I never said I was that smart.
I DO know I'm not a cop.
Wow.
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 01:20 PM # -
Stop lying no one trust you.
How much are you behind on your house in the suburbs and when are you going to lose it. When are you going to lose your job too.
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 01:22 PM # -
Tell me what I'm lying about and I'll tell you if it's a lie.
I have NO problem setting the record straight. Do you?
Posted on February 29, 2012 - 01:32 PM # -
Wow. This is getting downright disturbing. I feel like I'm watching a serious breakdown in reality.
Listener Guy, you need some help. Now.
