Attention Charlie FM.... Your ship is sinking...

  3. With Charlie and other Entercom Stations falling, when is somebody going to admit Erin Hubert is not qualified to run more than two stations.

Can we say the Emperor has no clothes.

This is just a trend and not particularly important. It probably won't change anything. It's interesting though that Z100 is #2 ranked!

Looks like CHR is on the rise in other markets too.

  8. Forget KBPS? How could I, I wake up to it every morning. Today it was Harry Chapin's WOLD.

  9. Is it just me or is Charlie 97.1 dead on the vine? that station is free falling ratings wise. $$$ is going away in a hurry from there according to sales ranks. The program director from 97.1 and 105.1 needs to go.Is Nelsons morning show the most expensive local show in PDX? does anyone know? finally Z100 is on fire..Tommy Austin comes back and look what happens.big ratings.Just my thoughts, discuss.

  10. That's great Valerie! I'm a Portland born and raised young guy, I mean I've listened to you, to the old Z100 morning zoo (I love how The Buzz is bringing that back together with Dan, Nelson, and Stacy now...) my entire life and to be rubbing elbows with people who I've looked up to for a long time is definitely a small shock to me! I love it! I'm just happy to be a part of all this.

  11. Valerie...glad we can brighten up your mornings! Just an FYI...Kid Rhythm Radio returns (6a-3p) beginning Tuesday, September 8th. For those of you who need an commercial free oldies fix we still run the oldies midnight to 6am and 3p-5p mon-fri and from midnight to noon Saturday and Sunday.

  13. When Harry Chapin would perform W-O-L-D live he would use a local radio stations call letters and it usually brought the house down.

Harry Chapin is one of my favorites!

I never got the chance to see him live, but I remember the commercials on KSHE in St. Louis for his concerts. They billed him as "America's Storyteller"

  16. Alpha should flip 95.5 to CHR and put Dr. Doug & Skippy on in the morning!

  18. Let's face it, no other owner (besides Paul Allen) would keep Sports/Talk on 95.5, when it can't even consistantly beat it's AM (1080) competitor.

Since a lot of markets are flipping formats to CHR. Do you think either Alpha Broadcasting or Entercom will flip one of their stations to CHR-Top 40 to complete against Z-100?

  24. Maybe our own 97.1 AMP Radio? Or 970 The Game and 95.5 Now FM?

So is there any truth to the rumor that Tom Parker is going to afternoons at k103???

    Posted on September 19, 2009 - 02:22 AM #
  27. PPM started Thursday in Portland. It's anyone's guess what the differences in ratings will be between the diary and PPM.

And yes, Tom Parker belongs in afternoons on K103.

    Posted on September 19, 2009 - 01:04 PM #
  28. This rumor may be due to Parker doing an overnight audition last weekend, but it was only to create new audio for current management to consider. No decision has been made, though Parker, John Williams and many others are in the running.

I would love to hear tom in that slot but really, what does ANYONE really do in ANY music station afternoon slot? Every 15 minutes or so they tell us to have "a really swell day, the weather is ________ and now here's more light rock to drill teeth by".
When was the last time anyone REALLY did a TRUE PM drive show on a music station? Lost art, gone with the cart decks.

    Interesting point dodger:

I'm not doing radio in Portland anymore, but STILL love the fact I'm live most of my afternoon. I've done mornings most of my life, so always attempt that positive spin in the afternoon. However, with budgets going the way they are, I've had to handle "triple" duty in the studio.

Luckily, with our new digs, I can bounce between the studio and prod rooms and still grab some phones, in-between checking a prod box in the main office. Our studios and office are separated like the KUPL / KKJZ days in the KOIN building when I was up there.

FYI, was listening to Wingnut up in Seattle on my vacation last week and he was having the time of his life using those phones. Now that was one great studio I loved working in!

OK, back to editing some late production..... zzzzzzz

kahtik, I am really glad to hear that you are doing that! That is awesome.
I hope you can continue to do that.
We tried it at KSND in Salem for the what, 6 months we were on the air and it did really well. Of course the owner didn't like the music so we all got canned but HEY we were live all dayparts!!
I guess I should have quantified my statements, they could put Tom in PM drive at K103 but as talented as he is, they would still be a horrible station, unless of course you like Elton John, Celine Dion and whatever else they play. The only time I actually hear K103 is when I AM at my dentist's office. I tell him how it really does not help, but he likes them.
Kahtik, we should talk via email sometime. I think we know each other don't we?

Tell you what, come up with a better format than AC to reach adult women and maybe, they'll go for it!

  35. I pick up charlie here on the coast and K103 so on that note I pop a pain pill and wave bye bye to charlie and I still love the morning show on K103. I do believe it's time for a change at 95.5 and I note that K-hits is slowly moving up maybe that's a good sign. As of for the brew give em a few more books. That's all on the top of my head at the moment.

They have the piss and moan show... It's called "The View".... Now if a network could just turn that into a radio show that would be ratings gold.... 24/7 women complaining about men.... My wife and her friends would listen....

    105.1 KPMS.....

I thought I would borrow this thread to mention that another of the longtime market leaders has fallen. There used to be a handful of stations with HUGE shares that no one could touch! With the first PPM ratings report in St. Louis, one such station, KDKA is no longer the #1 station since probably, the Harding/Cox election returns!

    Hey, Dodger:

Sorry I haven't been back on this thread in a while. If you notice, which most have, I tend to ramble, but that's because I type fast. Oh wait, I do that in person too, it's the ADD.

Thanks on the comment. Yes, I'm now live 2 of the 4 hours, but old habits die hard, so I still jump in during bits and pieces of tracked and do something live. Also love to mix up the giveaways, (when I get them as our morning show grabs it all) because everyone in town thinks I'm live the whole show.

I'm not sure if we know each other or not. It's usually hard to tell with everyone's nickname. Mine pretty much matches my license plates that I've had in both Washington and Oregon since the late 80's. That's how my buddies find me when I'm in town. If they see some old beast with that plate, they know it's me.

But since I don't live in the Rose City anymore, I'm usually only driving through to visit family and friends. I hang my hat on the other side of the Cascades now and LOVE IT! Someday, I'll probably leave this neck of the woods and add 'eh to the end of everything. LOLOL

Yeah, click to shoot me an email. We might know each other.

That's ok, I assume you are over with Horizon or one of the Bend outfits?
    Or is it KFalls?
Whichever, keep doing what yer doing, cause its REAL radio!

dodger: Not in Bend now, but did spend a year early 2002 - '03 with Gross Communications (now Bend Radio), then three months to the day after departure, was asked to jump on board with Combined Combination and stayed some months there until the PD/Mornings gig in Wenatchee, WA.

After some odds and ends, now in KFalls handling afternoons, loaded with production and remotes. The latter doesn't pay much in talent fees. However, the audience, clients and sales staff are GREAT to work with. God love 'em.

Click on the profile for email. I just listed the email as a website.

You're right! It is REAL radio, but even though we are in a smaller market, they are slowly getting us more and more tracked. The audience isn't a fan of it, especially in a smaller area, but what can they do? :)LOL

Honestly, I do enjoy my drive back and forth between Vancouver, BC and KF because I get to just punch the dial and see who's doing what. The surprising thing is, many times it's too much cookie cutter.

At first I used to be so bummed about the smaller market, but the one thing I love is realizing how great it is to REALLY touch the audience at remotes, events and civic duties. In this smaller area, not a day goes by that I'm not reminded by the audience of how great a job I have. Heck, only been doing it since 1984, and here since 2007.

Of course, I smile and tell them how greatful I am. Obviously my insides are on fire as I'm trying to figure out how to pay the next bill. :):)LOL

I know I'll miss it when I'm completely out, but again, that's what voice work is all about.
