Just read the article and the poster comments. Duin laid the smackdown on an idiot poster.

The comments on O Live can get pretty unbelievable.

  4. Chevy Tahoes in the HUD housing projects . Aha. Ya..whats that say about car dealers and the banking institutions that approve the loans ? Most of the time their credit histories are revealing , but the so called American free market will allow the credit extensions anyway .

This is just like what heppened in the housing market particularly with Fanny and Freddie in subsequent the crash of Fall 2008 ! And who is to blame for that?

"This is just like what heppened in the housing market particularly with Fanny and Freddie in subsequent the crash of Fall 2008 ! And who is to blame for that?"

    Both sides.

The consumer, yes, is to blame for accepting the subprime mortgage, for biting off WAY more than they can chew. (That was me, four years ago, and I do accept full responsibility. Thank God we were able to get out from under that house!)

    BUT

The lenders are also just as at fault, IMHO. It's their greed, them knowingly and willingly lending to people that had no chance in hell of qualifying conventionally for a home loan for much more home than they could afford, and laughing all the way to the bank with the exorbitent interest and fees they collected ... hell they were STILL making money auctioning off foreclosed homes.

  6. Warner, I totally agree. A quick read through the comments, particularly the one Duin gave the smackdown, translates as: "I've got mine, fuck you, go get yours, and be sure and share anything extra with me!"

    Selfish asses.

Community is right there with family where getting things done in a way that makes sense is concerned.

  7. warner, it's worse than that.

There are groups of the right wing out there that encourage this "Tea Bag" activity. The question now is how long before they take their "Second Amendment" Rights and begin using them against people who don't follow their point of view?

As for Brianl, they were not greedy, they just thought the real estate market or stock market would ever fall in value.

Now that was a horrible assumption, but there are many who made that assumption, and sone of them want the Federal Government to bail them out in cash for their horrible assumption.

Yes many Financial Institutions were bailed out, but they have been paying it back. If you take many if not all TARP Banks they are paying .01 percent for money market accounts over $50,000 to help pay back the TARP Funds. Which in return has allowed the stock market to increase in value as money in the Money Markets's is leaving the banks and has to go somewhere.

Saveit - I agree. I don't want to think this way, but frankly, I'm fearful of what might happen in the next couple of years. I fear we are heading for a major event of some kind.

  9. Me too.

Let's just say the "signs" are all there.

IMHO, consistent, regular and somewhat brutal push back is about the only tool we have. Combine that with very regular affirmation and support for anybody wanting to step up and do the right things, and we dig in, roll the dice and see if it was enough.

...or pass draconian laws, have it happen anyway, leaving us stuck somewhere we didn't need to be.

This dilemma leaves me burning a little inside. It just does not have to go this way, and but for a fraction of us that just can't play well with others, I fear it simply will.

It's just amazing to me how the country has gone from the excitement and beauty of election night to the ugliness we are seeing now. I've been around a long time, yet I still feel like I get suckered into optimism and hope, only to get slapped down again. I guess I'm just feeling very sad and disillusioned about our country, once again.

My wife tells me to "think positive" about these things. I find it difficult, but in order to go forward, I have to try. I think that's our only choice, that and as missing says, support those who are "doing the right things."

  12. "Its all about money , isnt it ?"

In the world as a whole, it is. In the confines of your private life, finances can be kept in perspective with health, education and general well being.

Out in the geo-political-industrialized world there are two major driving issues. They are exactly the same two that drive Wall St. Greed and fear.

The recent indigestion in national politics is driven by same. The eternal struggle for power between the major political parties, and the fear of losing power (or in the case of the GOP, relevancy itself). While I might sometimes feel gleeful over the mounting losses of the Republican and especially the extreme conservative elements within that party, it is not because I am an extreme liberal or Democrat, although at the superficial level this forum operates on it is a label I won't shy away from. Here's where the truth about tactics makes all us libs look so much better than the righties. Tactics. The hard right will frequently and consistently break the law (think Nixon), lie (think Bush), and create huge diversions through smoke and mirrors, to maintain power in the government to avoid damage to their capitalistic empires. While no side is without defect, if you add up the evil doings of the most evil participants in the game, the conservative extremists are way out in front. In the current scenario, it becomes abundantly clear that they will do anything to stop progress in any and all areas for the sole purpose of building a foundation from which they can regain the presidency. Their minions, led by the talk show hosts masquerading as news reporters reveals just how evil the right wing can be when it is down in the dirt with mud already on its wings. The politics of fear and loathing is not a new strategy for them, but their ranks are thin and they must rile them up and get the most from the small group of sheep they can control. Sure, it's all about the money, but there is still a way to live far more honorable than the way these neo cons operate.
