  1. This from All Access:

-----------------Honolulu City Council Asks Rush Limbaugh To Apologize For Chinese Parody-----------------

While RUSH LIMBAUGH stirs up controversy with his "fat" comments about First Lady MICHELLE OBAMA, the HONOLULU City Council is still addressing the PREMIERE RADIO NEWORKS host's previous controversy, passing a non-binding resolution asking LIMBAUGH to apologize for using mock-Chinese gibberish in an imitation of Chinese President HU JINTAO.

The HONOLULU STAR-ADVERTISER reports that the resolution, introduced by Councilmen STANLEY CHANG and ROMY CACHOLA, asks LIMBAUGH "to apologize to UNITED STATES citizens of Asian ancestry, President HU JINTAO, and the citizens of the PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA for his offensive and derogatory remarks about the Chinese language and President HU." It also urges PREMIERE parent CLEAR CHANNEL to implement policies against "racial discrimination in its radio programs" and urges sponsors not to advertise on shows with bigotry and intolerance.

The controversy about the HU parody came after a JANUARY show in which LIMBAUGH imitated the confusion over whether President OBAMA's comments at a WHITE HOUSE news conference were being simultaneously translated for President HU, and used stereotypical, nonsensical "Chinese" to do so. LIMBAUGH defended the bit by comparing the use of nonsense dialect to a SID CAESAR sketch. LIMBAUGH was in HONOLULU when he landed in a hospital with chest pains in 2009; his show airs on CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KHVH-A/HONOLULU in the market.

    Public airwaves?

This is a decency problem. When we allow that shit on our airwaves, we CONDONE racism, bigotry and theocracy, none of which are ok --ever.

If he is on subscription media, no problem. Hate away, make the bucks, ideally afford that next implant to compensate for the drugs. Game on.

If he's on the public airwaves, at our pleasure, it's gotta be worth it, and open and sanctioned advocacy of these things for profit isn't ok, when it's on the public commons.

And before you bitch, we don't have free speech on the broadcast airwaves. If we did, profanity would be permitted. It's not, generally speaking.

So is bigotry, racism and theocracy decent? I don't think it's anywhere near as decent as mere profanity is. Truth is, it is a lot worse because somebody somewhere is the target of that shit, and their tax dollars support it.

Not direct support, but they do pay for the regulatory body that won't allow a great bit containing some fleeting profanity, but will allow them to be devalued for who they are.

  4. Speaking "fake Chinese" is hateful and condones racism, bigotry, and theocracy?

This is much ado about nothing.

Limbaugh has the right to embarass himself (and once again, the world's perception of Amaericans) by spouting gibberish Chinese in an offensive manner. And, the Honolulu City Council has the right to ask him to apologize. And Rush can say whatever he wants in response to their request.

Yes LA, this has 1st Amendment written all over it.

  6. Even if it was a dumb idea or insensitive, it doesn't mean it was "hateful." It was just a stunt.

Calling NYC "himeytown" is a million times more hateful, but the fellow who did that got a pass, as he always does for his shenanigans because he's a librul, and the librul media takes care of its own.

And you (fairandbalanced) listen to LimBLAH almost everyday and NEVER hear him say anything against minorities....

    WOW!

  8. No NoParty, I don't. And someone claimed he did it "every day" so I'd like to know what it was he said on Friday, and maybe a couple of other days that week.

What did you hear him say this week, NoParty, that was against minorities? Maybe I missed something.

I didn't read where it was said "everyday". But he does say some stupid ass shit EVERYDAY. You listen so you've got to agree. The crap he said about Michelle Obama the other day was dog shit. Even his producers called him out. I think all that Oxy not only fucked up his hearing it ate holes in his brain.... If your going to call someone out for what they eat you should look in the mirror first.

I look at it this way with LimBLAH. You can't polish a turd.

  10. You said he says things AGAINST mionorities, and in the 20 years I've been listening to him, I've never heard him say anything against minorities.

What specifically were you referring to?

No wonder you are so out of it.

    20 years of that buffoon?

Jesus. You might actually be brain damaged by that. You do know he's not well educated and regularly works hard to convince ordinary people to vote against their own interests don't you? He makes the big bucks because selling hate and ignorance pays the bills big. Ask around.

Anybody will tell you putting that mound of sound on the air attracts every racist, bigot, theocrat and ignoramus with a chip on their shoulder for miles around.

  13. Are you a racist and an ageist?

Anyway, no I have not heard him say anything against minorities, and neither have you. You have to see if you can dig something up.

…let’s say we discover the gene that says the kid’s gonna be gay. How many parents, if they knew before the kid was gonna be born, [that he] was gonna be gay, they would take the pregnancy to term? Well, you don’t know but let’s say half of them said, “Oh, no, I don’t wanna do that to a kid.” [Then the] gay community finds out about this. The gay community would do the fastest 180 and become pro-life faster than anybody you’ve ever seen. … They’d be so against abortion if it was discovered that you could abort what you knew were gonna be gay babies.

    These are just stupid mostly:

    1. “There is no conclusive proof that nicotine’s addictive… And the same thing with cigarettes causing emphysema, lung cancer, heart disease.”

    2. “Columbus saved the Indians from themselves.”

    3. “He is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He’s moving all around and shaking and it’s purely an act… This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn’t take his medication or he’s acting.”

    4. “[African Americans] are twelve percent of the population. Who the hell cares?”

    5. “Kurt Cobain was, ladies and gentlemen, a worthless shred of human debris.”

    6. “Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream.”

    7. “We are a growing country and everybody needs energy! We’re not going to stay the United States if we start reducing energy usage. Conservation is not the answer.”

    8. To a black caller: “Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.”

    9. On torture at Abu Ghraib: “This is no different than what happens at the Skull and Bones initiation. And we’re going to ruin people’s lives over it, and we’re going to hamper our military effort, and then we are going to really hammer them because they had a good time. You know, these people are being fired at every day. I’m talking about people having a good time, these people-you ever heard of emotional release? You ever heard of need to blow some team off?”

    10. “Screw the world. Do you really think we ought to govern ourselves based on what the world thinks of us?”

  15. Interesting quotes, missing. Very interesting indeed.

About the racial ones, let's see a bona fide source.

    Posted on February 26, 2011 - 03:52 PM #
  16. For those of us who actually listen to Rush Limbaugh, and not to what his detractors and haters says he says, we know these quotes are bogus. I've lisented to his program for 20 years and never heard anything like these quotes, and the reason is because he never said these things.

    Here's on example:

"I mean, let's face it, we didn't have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I'm not saying we should bring it back; I'm just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark."
The only source we've turned up so far that putatively documents this quote is the 2006 book 101 People Who Are Really Screwing America, which attributes it to Rush Limbaugh but itself cites no source. On his program of 12 October 2009, Limbaugh disclaimed this quote as a fabricated one:

    (from limbaugh)
There's a quote out there that I first saw it in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch last week that I somehow, some time ago, defended slavery and started cracking jokes about it. And, you know, you say a lot of things in the course of 15 hours a week, over the course of 21 years. We've gone back, we have looked at everything we have. There is not even an inkling that any words in this quote are accurate. It's outrageous, but it's totally predictable.

It's being repeated by people who have never listened to this program, they certainly didn't hear it said themselves because it was never said.

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/limbaugh.asp

Now if somebody has an audio clip from his program, which surely would exist somewhere--it would have to for someone to be able to claim this, I will take this back. Otherwise, I think careless google "research" can be very unfair, but admittedly you can usually find the dirt you want if facts, truth, and fairness are of little concern, and character assassination is.

    LOL!!

Standing up for the fine American that is Rush Limbaugh?

Loser. That's a judgment. Sorry. The guy is a clown, not authoritative, entertainment only. Liar too.

Won't take a week to hear something on par with the ugly stuff I linked. And yes, I went looking, because it's not like I archive the worst of Rush, though that isn't hard. If there is a bogus one in there, and it would not surprise me at all given how many people don't like Rush, guilty as charged. That's a gaffe on my part, moving quick.

    Easy enough to fix.

    Posted on February 26, 2011 - 04:15 PM #
  18. I have to cross the line/aisle on this one. (Easy for me, since I'm neither liberal nor conservative.)

I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh, so I'm getting a 100% higher dose of him from people who claim they don't support his viewpoint than I would otherwise.

Sounds to me like a case of change the station and/or turn off your radio if you don't like it.
Heck, since so many (all?) stations that carry Limbaugh make a point of advertising it, why if/would anyone who might possibly disagree with his viewpoints remotely consider listening to that station? Now if a station was something like Radio Disney with the exception of Rush Limbaugh, I could see a point there. But I sincerely hope that no station in the country/world is programmed that way.

Standing up for the fine American that is Rush Limbaugh?
The guy is a clown, not authoritative, entertainment only.

Not standing up for him, either. And I agree that it's entertainment only, along the same lines of people who listen to rap and claim they would never use illegal drugs and/or assault a woman (or call her a 5-letter "b" word).

And yes, I went looking, because it's not like I archive the worst of Rush, though that isn't hard. If there is a bogus one in there, and it would not surprise me at all given how many people don't like Rush, guilty as charged.
So it would be OK to spread misinformation about someone because you don't like them. Or, it would be OK for someone to look up quotes from you on non-authoritative third-party websites and mention them in discussions because they don't want to hear what you have to say but are looking to discredit you.

Over on the radio board, the question was asked as to why Portland would need/want another satellite-fed conservative talk station. I think we have our answer: people who disagree to the viewpoint listen anyway, or are interested in content based on the original content from that viewpoint.

  19. "Barak The Magic Negro" pretty much sums it up. I find that to be very offensive and RACIST! Haven't listened to a second of his program since I heard that piece of garbage. What a waste of electricity.

  20. Rush makes a lot of money polarizing the country...

Not saying he isnt right sometimes...

But he and others like him never ever find a real solution to the problem.

They just raise hell and inflame the situation , one after the other on and on and on. Over and over again. There are others that do the same thing on the liberal side of the equation as well..but Rush is the master at it and also so are many other conservative talk show hosts...more cons than libs in this arena.

Its what sells, its all about money, its all about quarter hours and cumes and ratings and emotions and knee jerk reactions ...and false outrage..and entertainment and adrenaline flow, adrenaline and hype sells and a show ...and a way to feel like you are actually involved in something important when you are NOT when You are really a stupid DOLT listening to inane bullshit on AM radio...when YOU are actually a friggin' human disguised as a lobotomy patient operated on by some master radio communicator with an agenda..which is HATE and Distain...welcome in the decendants of Joseph Goebbels.

""Tell a lie and keep repeating it , the people will believe it .."""

"" the most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundemental concept is born in mind constantly...it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over """

  21. How many programs did you listen to before that radiowizard? Or should I say did you listen to more than 5 minutes?

Do you know the origin of the "magic negro" characterization? (Hint: it wasn't Rush Limbaugh and it wasn't a white man).

I don't see it that way at all.

How many hours of Rush have you listened to?

    Posted on February 26, 2011 - 04:55 PM #
  23. A few.. many years ago ..yes I did ...

My 85 year old father listens to him everyday and has since the early 90s..

My dad and I get along ok..but we dont talk about RUSH..ever...

And I am a conservative leaner politically..

I dont listen to talk radio as a general rule...I dont like it period!!

    Posted on February 26, 2011 - 04:57 PM #
  24. I ask because a lot of people make a judgement about him and his program, but have never listened to it. They base their opinion on a couple of one-liners taken out of context, or worse, on hit pieces that aren't accurate or just plain lies.

I don't listen as much as I used to. I think he was much funnier and more entertaining in the old days.

But if you lean conservative, I could understand why you might have an issue with style, but not that it would be a point of contention between you and your father. But in my own situation, it's more understandable, since my son is a liberal (hopefully just a passing youthful indescretion), and we don't talk about Rush very much...

I've been listening to him since he went national, and when he still did a couple of local hours on WABC.

  38. gotta say fairndbalanced that my original post stands. Barak the Magic Negro is still racist in my way of looking at things. At one time, before Hitler, the nazi symbol meant something else too.

If you've been listening for 20 years and never heard any comments regarding the skin color of athletes or politicians from the lips of Rushbo, you must be deaf or oblivious. I choose not to expose myself to such ignorance.

  39. I've heard plenty about skin color from all the media. That doesn't make it racist.

Is it a racist comment if I say that some black people voted for Obama because he is black? Is it a racist comment to say some white people voted against Obama because he is black?

The "Magic Negro" parody was based on commentary about Obama by a black writer, who called Obama a "Magic Negro," which I think had something to do with some old movies where a black man would just pop up in a scene and give someone advice or something like that. At worst it was poor taste, though I don't think it was even that, but if it was, that's a world apart from racism.

Also, this parody included Al Sharpton, who along with Jesse Jackson he tweeks, because these hucksters have made their fortunes off race baiting and exploiting racial tensions.

(So if you want to find some real racists to criticize, start with Jackson and Sharpton. Don't give them a pass because of their skin color or because they are "reverends.")

fairandbalance, has it ever occurred to you that the targets of these slurs might have an opinion about them that differs from yours? Here's a consciousness-raising exercise for you: Ask a random Chinese person how they feel about "ching chang chong" or a random African American about "Barack the Magic Negro." Chances are you will hear a *very* different perspective about what is offensive and what is not. After all, Limbaugh is deeply unpopular with every demographic in America except white, conservative Christian males age 45 and up. You might at least think a little about why this is the case, before you post again in his defense.

By the way, I've noticed you have twice asserted that Jesse Jackson "got a pass" for his Hymietown remark. In fact, he was excoriated for it in the "liberal" media on a daily basis for months even after he apologized, and it destroyed whatever serious chance he had to be nominated for president. His entire career in public life never really recovered from that gaffe -- and unlike Beck's and Limbaugh's on-air ethnic slurs, it wasn't even intended to be public.

You're wasting your time, PianoMan. F&B is a dittohead and is in deep denial about Limblah and his racist attitudes.
The plethora of evidence that Rush is a bigoted asshole is so overwhelming that even if you provide transcript quotes or direct audio, F&B will reject it. Don't waste your time.

  42. PinaoMan,

It is the intent that counts.

Is any time someone speaks in fake Chinese an assault on an entire race of people? I would love to hear a Chinese person speak in fake English. I wonder what it would sound like. And if a Chinese audience laughed at it, I would laugh along with it.

If people are offended, sometimes they want to be offended, and sometimes they misunderstand, but for whatever the reason the offense, that doesn't mean there was an intent.

"After all, there is a reason why Limbaugh is deeply unpopular with every demographic in America except white, conservative Christian males age 45 and up."

    Could you post the stats?

And I wonder how many programs they actually listened to, and how much of the alleged unpopularity is due to one-liners taken out of context or total fabrications.

Why don't you look it up yourself. If we post facts you ignore them or say that they are bogus.

  44. I think that since Rush Limbaugh is a conservative, that he will draw a conservative base. That liberals would not be as drawn to his program would be understandable.

I would bet that this board is comprised of a similar demographic--old white guys.

Rush Limblah may be a conservative, but he has made his fortune being a huckster and a bigoted liar. You're also way off base if you think this board is comprised of old white guy conservatives.

My buddy who taugh english in South Korea for a few years told me that the Koreans make fun of us by how we pronounce "R's". They would go off like R R R R R R R R!!!! to imitate us.

  48. I didn't say white guy conservatives. But my guess is this board is mostly made up of white men (don't think I've seen a woman poster yet) who range in age from 40 to 65.

It's just a guess, not an assertion. It would be interesting to see what it really is.

Vitology, when Koreans do that, should we be offended? I'm not. I think it's funny, and would like to hear it.

" when Koreans do that, should we be offended?"

If you subscribe to the liberal PC playbook, we should be deeply offended and I think it would take top spot on ALL news outlets for at least a week.

  50. Well, damn, I didn't think of that, and now I'm outraged!

Maybe we could get the BBC to do some spots too. They are degrading all English speaking peoples.
