The Music of Your Life is adding a new program called "Hit Parade". It will begin as a 2 hour program and perhaps expand later on. I'm not making this up: The idea is to play "chart topping records from the '50s through the present". They expect to increase their audience significantly! This sounds like an idea whose time came 45 years ago! Considering this must have something to do with Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, what does that have to do with any chart topping songs of say, the last 15 years? It's the "chart topping" bit that gets me! It's hard enough to find recent songs that would fit, let alone "chart topping"! I really don't get this one.

I read it as the 15 years being '55 to '70.
Anyway, "Hit Parade" must be in the public domain.

I just said "15 years" out of thin air! It's been about that long since there's been ANY compatible(with Sinatra and Bennett)music that was really popular, not that there's been much since probably the '70s and to be truly compatible, more like the mid-60s! The press release referred to "chart topping records from the '50s through the present".

The last one of those 'type songs' I remember being in the top 10 was a flash in the pan from 1970...Hold me , Thrill me...by Mel Carter..
I was 19 at the time and could'nt believe what I was hearing on KGHO Aberdeen , Wa top 40 radio/with a progressive rock lean !

oops, I got the wrong song, sorry.

I have recollection that "It's All in the Game" was written by a Vice President of the United States. Correct me, if I am wrong.

From Wikipedia:
It's All in the Game" was a 1958 hit for Tommy Edwards. Carl Sigman composed the lyrics in 1951 to a wordless 1911 composition entitled "Melody in A Major," written by Charles Dawes, later Vice President of the United States under Calvin Coolidge. It is the only # 1 pop single to have been cowritten by a U.S. Vice President.

Boy did I get into a jackpot over this one ! I have worked to damned many oldies formats over the years playing everyone's versions of multiple hits or semi hits and getting them all mixed up . I did some more looking here and found this ..
Yes the song was written originally by a U.S.VP named Dawes..in 1911 ( I think he was Cal Coolige's Vp ) . Anyway, he never lived to hear his song be a hit. Which happened first in 1958 , Tommy Edwards. Edwards died in 1969 of a brain aneurism at age 47. Six months later the Four tops did a cover of this song, it went to # 27. That must be the one I remember hearing when I was 19.
Excuse me, while I have a senior moment.

I don't believe HIT PARADE has anything to do with MOYL, except distribution through the same folks. LARRY LUJACK will be hosting, and I believe the intent is to create a 24/7 stream of programming as a stand-alone format. JOHN ROOK is involved. There's more info on his site. Google it.

Robin is correct. Legendary programmer John Rook (KIMM, KIMN, KQV, WLS, WCFL, KFI, KABC and consultant for many others is putting together an Oldies format that will be hosted by some of the most famous names in the business including Larry Lujack, Wink Martindale and others. I was fortunate to work for John in Chicago and consider him my primary mentor in the business. He has been "sitting out" the last few years at his ranch in Cour De Lene (sp) Idaho recovering from heart problems. John has forgotten more about progamming than most people ever knew. This will be fun to watch.

With this new information, I can see that the article was poorly written. It says that MOYL is adding a new show, when they should be saying it's a syndicated show from a separate network. With a rock n roll base, I can see how this could work. It was MOYL that was throwing me off.
