"Bill in Portland, you're on with Sam Adams."

"Thanks Ron. Long time listener, first time caller. I have two questions:

1, Sam, why did you not care about baseball leaving town and 2, shouldn't Portland change it's motto from 'Keep it weird' to 'You don't have to be 18 to enjoy a Sam Adams?'"

Give him credit. How many other politicans would put themselves in a hot seat like this?

Adams tried to keep baseball in PDX. Unfortunately the residents of PDX had other priorities (like keeping the MC). Besides, soccer is outselling baseball tickets at PGE Park (I know) by a wide margin.

    BTW, you're an ugly American.

Aren't they calling the station, "KPAM", anymore?

Good for them for trying. Putting Adams on a show like that is dangling meat in front of a dog. The purpose of talk radio is to generate talk, right? (It's funny hearing the PD touting their access to the mayor. Sam does not suffer from underexposure).

Let's see Mayor Adams fill in for Lars Larson. OOPS, he won't even talk to Lars Larson.

Why publicize a person who would throw you under the bus for the ratings...

Bud's different. I know both these guys. Bud's a genuine character, a sincere and serious local neighborhood honk with a clownish shtick, and media gravitated toward him. (At first, anyway, but that faded when the novelty wore off and Bud was revealed to be a mildly conservative small businessman who was totally daunted by cops).

Sam can earn our disapprobation without small-minded homophobic insults. He is obsessed with maximizing his impact in this, his dream job, and exposure is an essential element of that, and of him. His incarnation is wrapped up in being Mayor, and while he has a significant ego, his insecurity is evident in his tension, temper, eagerness to please, and polyamorous attraction to media opportunities provided any entity at all. He'd do Channel 6 weekend weather if he was asked.

Aren't you describing most politicans? Large egos and flawed personalities are traits are common to people who are attracted to such public positions. Bottom line, as long as elected officials vote my way, they can do channel 6 weather.

I agree what you are saying about Bud Clark, but he got in mostly because people were tired of Frank Ivancie.
