  1. This From The Craig Adams News Service:

Former KEX afternoons "Mark & Dave" will join "AM 860" KPAM afternoons, sooner than this reporter first thought. Their Clear Channel non-compete clause is significantly reduced. Current afternoons "Terry Boyd's World" contract expired the end of August and not renewed. Terry Boyd is now working without a contract, likely until "Mark & Dave" take over.

Pamplin Media has more of a budget to spend on "Mark & Dave" since "The Victoria Taft Show" was terminated few months ago. I've heard they won't waste "Mark & Dave" on anything other than drive time and "The Bob Miller Show" will not be affected. Word is KPAM still pays very well because they don't answer to a corporate headquarters in Texas, Pennsylvania or New York.

  2. Have to say I saw this one coming pretty clearly as most probably did....My second paying radio gig was overnights and weekends board oping at KPAM. It was great! Just from a young person's perspective who has worked for locally owned independent operations AND inside the corporate commercial capitalistic monster, it's obvious where the better place to be is... I will never work for CC again. I've seen too much b.s. and good people fired at the most inappropriate times for short term quarterly profit...(thought maybe they are happy to finally be freed from that particular hell? I know I was and I didn't have to get fired!) Yeah, I could probably produce again and kick the crap out of some local ratings here, but unless its at KPAM, KBPS, KBOO, or some other local operation I'd rather go be a letter carrier for the USPS or work for the forest service etc (my bet is the post office will outlast CC but who knows!) I wish more good radio people would take a stand against the CC's of the world instead of rolling over and continuing on the path to ultimate disaster of the business...

Hopefully Pamplin will spend some money promoting Mark and Dave on KPAM.

Errmmm, I'm not sure either of those entities is healthy & hiring these days but we understand what you're saying.

  5. I would think there's going to be a big promotional push for "Mark & Dave" in all of the Pamplin Media newspapers that pretty much cover the area.

  7. Yes! "3 to 6pm on K???" There you go. Glad to see Mark & Dave going back to "HATE FREE RADIO." That's when they were the best.

Hopefully they won't be stuck talking politics all of the time like they were toward the end at KEX.

  13. How is being the KEX reject station a compelling strategy?

  14. I was listening to Terry yesterday about 4:10PM and he was talking to Bruce Sussman of KOIN TV. They were wagering whether or not it would snow on or before 10/31 or Terry would be on the air. Looks like 11/1 is the date?

  15. This should be good. Mark & Dave's timely banter without the untrained voice of Ms. Heaton irritating the #$!@&% out of me!

  16. Just noticed Mark & Dave's website has a count down clock 24 days 5 hours & 25 minutes - Oct 21 is D-day (or rather M&D-day).

  17. Question: Was this photo taken at KPAM studios?

  18. No, Craig. That's a picture from the KEX studios on Macadam. I have to admit, I can't place exactly where in the building this was taken, but I definltely recognize the surroundings. The molding around the windows and such. Besides, Dave is wearing a shirt with an 1190 KEX logo on it.

  19. All you have to do is ask...The picture was taken at Fleetwood's on Front St. on Maui. We were there for an interview with Mic Fleetwood (pictured) as he was building the new place. What's there now is a far cry from what we saw when we met Mic.

It probably went up his nose.

  22. KPAM is announcing on-air now that there is a new team arriving on Monday.. additionally, Terry Boyd just announced that today is his last day in the time slot...(Ron Callan filling in on Friday) and after a brief hiatus, Terry Boyd's World, or some iteration of it, will return "in a different time slot". They are saying their goodbye's, apparently for the rest of the afternoon. Not very often you hear a show have the ability to say goodbye to their listeners..

From the Mark and Dave Facebook page yesterday afternoon: "Help us add to our FB likes ( it will drive the old bosses crazy) Forward to your friends and ask them to follow. Our new home will be announced soon. Talk to you Monday!"

They posted the same photo today with this addition: "You guys are GREAT! Keep sharing this post and ask your friends to "like" M&D. Can't wait for Monday."

I just happened to notice some of the sarcastic and snide tags attached to this thread. Frankly, I'm disappointed. Whatever you may think of Mark and Dave, at least they are local radio personalities in an era where more and more programming is syndicated. Then again, maybe you want local programming to disappear.

  26. There It Is! "Mark & Dave" 3 to 6pm. "AM 860" KPAM: http://www.markanddaveshow.com/

What will they say? How much will they go into detail?

I don't know about you but I'm going to be all ears for this show.

And it's now official on the KPAM website, too! As of 8 a.m. this morning there was no mention of Mark & Dave (in fact, the list of shows still had Terry Boyd), but come lunch hour, the KPAM site has a big banner ad at the top, a sidebar graphic, and the Mark and Dave show replaced Terry Boyd on the list of shows.
