All summer long, a steady stream of coolers, blankets and giggling children have been flowing into parks across America. Some scientists claim that the daily appearance of sunshine is the biggest factor, but other observers cite concerts, parades, festivals and sporting events as contributors to the meteoric rise in the popularity of being outside.
Consumption of potato salad, steaks, hot dogs, beer and lemonade has steadily increased over the past three months. Sales of frisbees, fishing lures, baseball gloves, hiking boots and dog toys have been soaring. Statistics clearly show that this kind of activity not been seen since last summer, but experts caution that this trend is not expected to last through the fall.
