My "spies" tell me that a trio of individual broadcasters have combined to purchase KSWB in Seaside and an FM station further down the coast. Anyone have any info on this?

Anyone got anything on this? I have no idea where to go on the www to research this.

  3. Your 'spies" I suspect are drinking on duty. I own KSWB AM with John Chapman and KCBZ FM (their "further down the coast" station ?) licensed to Cannon Beach/Astoria. Calcomm Stations Oregon, LLC is the majority holder in those stations and will continue to be.
    In fact business is great.

You can go to the FCC Website, to the Audio Division and run an FM Query with call letters and see the offcial ownership status of any radio station in the U.S.

By the way, outsider / How about a real name ? Or contact us by email at

I'd be happy to answer any questions you've got

And how do I know your real name is Cal Brady?

How 'bout posting a copy of your drivers license?

When everyone else (and I do mean EVERYBODY) starts posting with their real names, then I'll do the same.

I stand by what I say. When everyone else starts posting with their real name, I will too.

I relayed something reported to me, that's all. Cal was the one who started with his "How about a real name?" crap. His reply before that was fine and, if it had been left at that, would have received nothing more than a thank you.

And, no, no, a thousand times no, we are all NOT friends here.

But I do think Roger's okay. (I may be in a cult of one on that, but what the heck....)

  7. Outsider,

It is clear why you don't have friends.... One.. your a rumor maker.. Two.. why would Mr Brady lie about what he owns, so if your asked to be upfront.. what is it you have to hide..Three... Its clear your nothing but a trouble making instigator and have nothing better to do with your time...Four.. you sound like a right boring person who sits alone at the end of the bar... "oh is me" as Mr Brady suggested maybe your spies are sitting with you eating the free snacks and wasting your life away.

Mr Brady seems to have made it clear who he is, in fact all his info lines up with the FCC, The OAB Handbook and the local directories.... So now how about you.... either prove yourself or find a new life...

  8. Mr. Chapman, is that you? lol

  9. I'm sorry I don't know how to post a copy of my drivers license so I can prove who I am. My aren't we a distrusting bunch ?
I don't know which is more lacking "outsider" civility or sanity ?

"CB" aka Cal Brady aka Charles Manson aka Cat Stevens aka Yusuf

  10. Dang, I thought the CB in KCBZ stood for Cannon Beach, not Cal Brady. lol

    Posted on May 28, 2009 - 01:16 PM #
  11. mmm, way before I bought it the "CB" stood for Cannon Beach, ) and NOW- it finally stands for Cal Brady. 5 years from now it will stand for (all) "Cash Buyer".

    I dream on

  12. Hey, maybe Jerry Dennon and the Brothers Four will buy KSWB from ya! :). Wasn't it Dennon's brother who originally filed for KCBZ?

    Posted on May 28, 2009 - 03:24 PM #
  13. I haven't a clue. I do know that KSWB has been owned by one nutcase, a preacher, and someone who may have been dropped off a "mother ship". The people we bought it from, Mike Gold at Cannon Beach Radio, are good folks as is Chris Gilbreth's Royal Communications who we bought KCBZ FM from.

  14. I don't know who this Jerry Dennon and the Brothers Four are but if they post their drivers licenses here and have a VISA card with 350,000.00 available credit, please give them my Email address.

    OK 300,000.00 with terms.

  15. Jerry Dennon was the guy who put KSWB on the air originally with the Brothers Four, a group of University of Washington guys who had national hits. Jerry was a record distributor and owned Jerden Records. Jerry's biggest national hit was the Kingsmen's Louie Louie. Jerry now sells radio station for Montcalm. If you need a broker, he is available. Jerry's family came from the Cannon Beach area and he mentioned to me one time that his brother originally applied to add the frequency for the Cannon Beach FM.

I met that nutcase you mentioned. He said he had been a prize fighter at one time. I think he did take one too many punches. He was a strange dude. He told me that God had told him to purchase a new board and other items.

Good luck with your radio venture.

  17. Thanks Craig- if indeed that is you real name (please see crazy earlier posts) ?
God told me to buy a new board too. I got a Promix 12 from Broadcast Tools, putting it in next week,.Now I'm waiting for God to tell me about a 10kw. transmitter, backup power, and few other "minor" issues.
God.....if you're listening ? Save us all from SoundExchange. Please...This is the anti-Christ dressed up as the 'Church Lady" with a Mohawk hair style.....

"Jerry's biggest national hit was the Kingsmen's Louie Louie."
Yes, the Kingsmen's Louie Louie was out first on Jerden label. However, when it started getting played back east and started taking off, it was released on Wand Records, a division of Scepter records. There was some kind of agreement between Jerry Dennon and Wand records to make it happen... possibly the ability to press large numbers of copies quickly and a larger distribution network.

  20. Next time I'm on the coast, I'll add KSWB to my 'drop by' list (which now includes Blue Heron, Debbie D's, the Barview jetty, anything in Manzanita and The Ark in Oysterville). As you see, I have a big gap that needs filing in!

I admire people who can make a go of real radio service. It's inspiring to folks like me who have great jobs in not-so-great locations and long to end our ex-pat status some day.

Jeezus Cal, just photocopy it and mail it to me. For cryin' out loud! <<<<Look....smiley face. That indicates that comment was intended to be humorous. (Would that qualify as another crazy post?)

    RadioRadio,
Is that what is listed on your birth certificate under name?

I have plenty of friends. How many friends I have, or you, or anyone for that matter, isn't up for debate. But, I'll just avoid the rush and dislike you now. (There. Feel better?) I'm a "rumor maker" eh? I posted one thing....ONE. Where does that make me a rumor maker?

"oh is me" What the hell is that?

Mr. Brady is the owner of KSWB? That's fine and good. Also dandy. I simply heard a piece of information and was trying to confirm it or disprove it. That's all. If you aren't smart enough to see that, then that's your problem. (Mr. Brady, you should have been able to see the same thing as well, before firing off with that let's see a real name comment. AGAIN....When everyone else starts posting under a real, verifiable name, then I'll do the same.)

And you mean to tell me the OAB Handbook and "local directories" (whatever those are) have NEVER been wrong? (I'm not saying they are in this case, but you seem to say they are infallible.)

I like my life. I don't need a new one despite what you and anyone else thinks. Gawd, you really know how to hurt a guy. Not.

  22. outsider,

Dude......Easy..... I pronounce this thread "dead on arrival".

This back and forth bashing and sniping is sophmoric and embarrassing.

There are so many issues facing broadcasters today:

    the "Radio Tax"
the illegal and absurd implementation of SoundExchange royalties on the Internet and soon terestial broadcasters.
The return, possibly, of the "Fairness Doctrine"

By the way- why does every piece of legislation that comes out of Washington and truly f%$ks people always have the word "fairness" in it ?

  24. Dear Outsider,

I don't like you either.... so there..

My mommy says I have to stay in my own yard and I am not allowed to play with nasty people like you... I agree Mr Brady there is so many more important things in radio we need to worry about....like where Mr Outsider will be able to cash in his next bags of cans for a pounder...Like where Mr Outsider plans to develop his new board game called "Just Cause I say It Doesn't Mean I Know S**T".. I hear there is a opening on the ramp exit 302 north on I-5...comes set up with carboard, fat marker and under pass lodgings...

"oh is me" is your pity position at the end of the bar... nobody likes me..."oh is me" No wait I dont like anyone else" oH is me" wait I wonder why that is...

KJUNGUY, not for sure who John Chapman is but i would rather sit at the bar with him then "Mr Grumpy Self Absorbed Outsider" down there..." Oh is Me"

Oh Crap.. Mommy is calling me!!!!

Love,Laughter..Radio.....( notice your missing from that equation Outsider....hence your name I guess)

Saying " Get a life" doesnt mean the one you have is wrong.. means you dont have one to start!!!! Happy Trails

Cal, as far as your last comment:

Cute. Real cute. How long did it take you to come up with that one?

I've never met you, but I like your style. Do you give tours of your station to coastal bound radio geeks like myself?

  28. Be glad to, we're at 615 Broadway in Seaside (corner of Holladay). There's always some body around from 9-5 M-F. I'm usually there around 12 N. I do a 6p-12Mid. show. The place will be torn apart for another week as we add more office space
