  1. This from All Access:

In technical filings, WALLOWA VALLEY RADIO has applied to move KWVR-A/ENTERPRISE, OR to a new site after losing its current location, which the licensee says is too small for a standard 90 degree ground system and which the owner intends to subdivide and sell.
    ______________________________________________________________________________________

KWVR's transmitter site is on Golf Course Rd.

The occupant of 94.1 has applied to move to 92.9, soon to be replaced by a newly downgraded 94.1, which I believe is moving from 92.7 but don't quote me.

  3. We have discussed the 92.9/94.1 issue in other threads. 94.3 KZPT's move to Government Camp is forcing KXIX (Bend) to move from 94.1 to the less ideal 92.9. This forces 92.7 KRXF (Sunriver) to move to 94.1.

I know but they just applied this week.

  5. 94.1 KXIX "Power 94" will not be moving after all. It will be less "Power"...but still on 94.1 (which will be licensed to Sunriver.) The Bend Radio Group made a wise decision, keeping KXIX on it's heritage, interference-free frequency. As a C2 on 94.1, the KXIX signal will still reach into Washington and Eastern Oregon. Meanwhile, "92/7 FM" KRXF will get a nice coverage boost by switching to 92.9, as a C0. With this move, KRXF will no longer bump into The Dalles' 92.7 KMSW, Burns' 92.7 KQHC, or Newport's 92.7 KNCU.

This sounds questionable at the eleventh hour. It seems more likely that the new occupant of 94.1 will keep it's call letters and KXIX will change to something else on 92.9.

  7. "92/7 FM" has been promoting the upgrade to 92.9, on the air, and on their website/Facebook. They say it's happening in one week, but haven't given an exact date and time.

Now it makes sense: There is a Time Brokerage Agreement in place between GCC owned KXIX and Sunriver's KRXF, where the former provides programming for the latter, with the option to purchase at some point. Expect to see an application soon that will give GCC ownership of KRXF.

  9. It sounds like the "big switch" is happening on Friday. I'm guessing that 94.3 KZPT (Government Camp) will be on the air very soon.

Yes, I'm expecting GCC to be owning both 92.9 and 94.1, in the not too distant future.

When 94.1 powers down to a C2, most listeners around Bend, Redmond, Sisters, etc., won't notice the difference. Of course, places like Summer Lake, Mt. Hood, McKenzie Bridge, and other fringe reception areas, will have a noticably weaker signal.

Don't think that will happen for a while with the Bustos reorganization.

  12. Seems like it would be easy to plug in one of Bustos' crap quality satellite feeds into the 94.3 KZPT transmitter.

  13. "92/7 FM" is making the switch to "92/9 FM" on Sunday.

Both 92.7 and 94.1 are running at low power right now.

According to a column in Radio-Info, 94.3 and 1130 are outside the reorg, held in a separate company (Bustos Media *Holdings* LLC) which retains some CA stations under the same umbrella.

  15. "92/7 FM" ended up switching to "92/9 FM" (KRXF, Bend) last night (7/10) around 9 PM.

94.1 (KXIX, Sunriver) had very over-modulated audio, over the weekend.

    Posted on July 11, 2010 - 11:19 PM #
  16. 94.1 KXIX is no longer receivable in the hills of Eugene, while 92.9 KRXF is coming in, as KXIX used to.

  17. This from All Access:

----------------------------------------KRXF Doubles Power In Bend, OR----------------------------------------

BEND RADIO GROUP Alternative KRXF/BEND, OR has moved up the dial from 92.7 FM to 92.9 FM.

KRXP MD KRIS METZDORF told ALL ACCESS, "We went from 50,000 watts to 100,000 watts so you can imagine how much better our signal is now everywhere including the outer lying areas of CENTRAL OREGON. Our call letters are still KRXF."

    Posted on July 19, 2010 - 07:33 PM #
  18. To be exact, KRXF was 18,500. I now understand why Kris doesn't use her last name on the air. While I enjoy a lot of what "92/9 FM" plays, I think their format is a bit too eclectic. They would see higher ratings with a more hit-driven "New Rock" format.

Hmmm..."Hit-Driven" Alternative Rock. If it's a hit, what exactly makes it alternative? It's thinking like this that has put this format into the dumper, perhaps?

------------------------------KRXF Honored For Third Straight Year In Bend, OR------------------------------

Congrats to BEND RADIO GROUP Alternative KRXF (92/9 FM)/BEND, OR on being voted by the SOURCE WEEKLY readers POLL as CENTRAL OREGON’s "Best Radio Station." In addition, 92/9 FM's MD/middayer KRIS METZDORF was voted "Best Personality."

92/9 FM has won both awards since the station signed on three years ago.

-----------------------------Bend Radio/Oregon Names Wes Davis Chief Engineer-----------------------------

BEND RADIO GROUP has named LEE WESLEY DAVIS Chief Engineer/Operator of its CENTRAL OREGON cluster of four FMs and one AM. Previously, DAVIS spent five years as the VP/Engineering for NETXMEDIA GROUP.

"With the passing of DAVE YOUNG last spring, we knew we had some very big engineering shoes to fill," Owner/Co-CEO JIM GROSS said. "To have found someone of WES’ caliber was truly a godsend. WES is a great engineer and broadcaster, he understands programming, and he’s a perfect fit for CENTRAL OREGON’s communities and outdoor lifestyle. WES is also a great person and someone to whom our staff has instantly bonded. He’s already making a huge and positive difference in our organization."

  23. Now, hopefully he can get rid of that nasty high-pitched background noise on Power 94, and KSJJ 102.9!

  24. I'm thinking, 94.1 KXIX should move to Awbrey Butte, to maximize it's C2 signal, and better serve the population areas in Central Oregon. Awbrey Butte C2's like 101.7 KLRR and 104.1 KWPK, provide much better coverage of Bend, Sisters, and the Cascades.

Bend is market #205 and I don't see any other possibilities unless it's WAY below #201! There don't appear to be any Class A Commercial stations in Bend and anything very far outside, wouldn't come in so I'm at a loss. South-Central sounds like Klamath Falls but there's that #201+ number getting in the way again.

It looks like I skipped over Medford at #209. There's a Class A in Rogue River on 94.7 but it's more of a Grants Pass station. That must be it but it isn't 6KW. Still, that seems to be all we have to go on.

Could be KRAT (97.7 FM, "97.7 The Rat") in Altamont, Oregon (Klamath Falls area). It's been silent for a while and is up for sale. At least that's what I was told last week while in town.

Former Bend jock, Bruce Cannon has passed away. He was a longtime fixture at KTAC Tacoma, and worked at various markets in the Northwest. A very good radio performer, a unique but likeable style. "Sugar Bruce" was a nickname, and yes, he was quite a sweet radio pro.
