  1. So they premiered this week. They're probably older than Mark & Brian. Will they be around in two or three years? KGON may have another retiring morning show soon.

I am curious, has B&T been in PDX before? If not, get used to something new that is indeed very old. Their format is based on a round-robin 4 person team reminiscent of the old "Zoo" format. They can be funny at times, but rather sexist, degrading, and juvenile at times as well. The chemistry is odd, Bob is the strong, silent guy who says little, but when he does it is usually compelling. Tom is the geek who seems stuck in the 70's, and Chick is just there to argue, and the newswoman (sorry, can't think of her name right this minute), tries hard and comes across as the only reasonable person on the team. The show is still obsessed with sex and various bodily functions, I thought perhaps we have moved beyond that. A very interesting formula...for 1982. I would make an educated guess this is just a place holder until they figure out what will really work.

I think this program works for classic rockers hitting a demo of male 45-54, but as mentioned above, is there much life left for this type of show?

  4. Clear Channel briefly put Bob & Tom on 105.9 The River, but the show didn't fit the station's format. Bob & Tom is a much better fit for KGON.

  5. I really enjoy Bob and Tom. I think they'll do a great job. Just wish they would have put somebody local on like Mike & Amy.

They couldn't find a show that would be local? This medium is dying a slow death.

Smooth unidentifiable accents, generic "proudly broadcasting in YOUR city!" greeting, voices never go too high or too low, smooth-as-silk cutting from one perfectly produced skit to the next, script-like interplay between hosts with nobody ever talking over another. It was like elevator music.

  10. Here's the official All Access announcement:

---------------------------Classic Rock KGON Portland Adds Bob & Tom For Mornings---------------------------

ENTERCOM Classic Rock KGON/PORTLAND has added THE BOB & TOM SHOW to mornings replacing the MARK & BRIAN SHOW which aired its last program on AUGUST 17th. BOB & TOM can be heard every morning from 5-9a PT.

"I've long been a fan of BOB & TOM," ENTERCOM/PORTLAND VP/Programming CLARK RYAN said. "They have one of the most successful syndicated shows in the business and they're a natural fit for KGON. We're excited to welcome them to PORTLAND."

  11. Nothing special going on that I can tell; typical "Weenie & the Butt" morning patter. I can't see it lasting, unless the KGON advertisers decide to just start pissing their money away!

  14. So I gave Bob and Tom a try this week they just aren't working for me. I admit that they have big shoes to fill in comparison to Mark and Brian, but B & T portray juvenile humor. They are fake and uninterested in thier audience. They constantly talk over each other and laugh at thier own lame jokes. A Zoo format isn't what KGON needs. With Mark and Brian, they enganged thier auidence with thier own lives and visa versa. They were real and even though they weren't local, they still made you feel at home with them in LA. I will give it another week, but frankly, I'll keep the radio off until Iris comes on at 9.

Wait a minute, I'd heard Bob and Tom on the radio for years in Portland, I always thought it was on KGON... Am I missing something here?

Mark and Brian were on KGON for many years. Bob and Tom are their replacements. According to one poster, they were on 105.9 The River for a short time.
