   About 550 people are asking for restitution for alleged sexual abuse by clergy in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee — more than in any of the other U.S. dioceses that have filed for bankruptcy protection, according to a lawyer involved in the Milwaukee case.

   The Milwaukee Archdiocese filed for bankruptcy protection last year, saying pending sex-abuse lawsuits could leave it with debts it couldn't afford.

   The archdiocese has paid more than $30 million in settlements and other court costs related to allegations of clergy abuse and more than a dozen suits against it have been halted because of the bankruptcy proceedings. One priest alone is accused of abusing some 200 boys at a suburban school for deaf students from 1950 to 1974.

   Is this what the troll means by pedophiles in public schools? Looks like more priests molest kids in public schools than non-priests, too.

   The Catholic Church should burn in Hell for this fundamental flaw in its organization.

   It's horrible. No Catholic is happy when a priest fails. And the vast majority of priests who are good men have to bear the shame of things they didn't do.

   But it's also a distortion to put a magnifying glass on wrongdoings as if that is what the Church is.

   There are more abusers by percentage in the public school system, and we could also make long lists of their atrocities, but who here would condemn the wonderful public school system and their union teachers because of the actions of a small percentage?

   God, that's so pathetic.

   These are atomic issues, one isn't related to the other. The church has a lot of ugly secrets, and there is a lot of abuse going on too. It might be just a notch better attempt at redirection to compare, say another church?

   There is no question this is horrible.

   But it's like listing the gruesome details of a hundred plane crashes and then making a case it's not safe to fly.

   It needs some perspective to be fairly judged.

   By percentage there are more abusers in the general male population than in the Church. This is not just a church problem. It's everywhere.

    I would like to know what or whom is alleging that there is more abusive behavior in the public school system...and so how are those stats handled exactly..MORE means what...by PERCENTAGE or not...

    Because there are quite a number more PUBLIC educational institutions than there are Catholic !! Certainly ...so of course if you look at the raw numbers there would be more abusers in Public education as a total...but I'll lay dollars to donut holes that by percent..the Catholic Educational institutions far exceed in child abuse cases.

    F&B you need to take a 100 or 200 level statistical analysis class to be able to know whether someone is blowing smoke up ur pantleg or not..when it comes to slinging stats around about child abuse..compare apples with apples..

    F&B has posted these spurious claims two different ways recently, and totally stonewalled requests for documentation because none exists. His wormy 'few bad apples' theory is rotten without that proof. That leaves the Catholic Church systematically to blame and F&B looking pretty pathetic. Lotta nerve he's got, accusing us of "phony outrage" over such a profound problem, while reserving the high ground of REAL outrage for himself.

    Unrelated queries, but worth addressing:
    1. If it were real; probably. Why not be a good chap and drop us a line from the other side and put the debate to rest.
    2. It’s an on-going problem. So, you were saying? By the way that’s a novel moral approach: It’s ok because I wasn’t a member of the organization at the time the moral and criminal offences occurred. Putting aside for a moment that's not even accurate; it's a nutty stance as well as a deeply hypocritical one.

    Perhaps if former Hitler youth member Joseph Ratzinger spent a fraction of the time addressing his own deeply flawed institution as he does attempting to badger consenting adults from using birth contraception, helping prevent unwanted pregnancies as well as curbing sexually transmitted diseases, the Catholic Church would not be a continuing haven for pedophilic priests.
