  2. I think you are probably right about it being from the Bay Area.

Compare the stream with what you are hearing over the air.

It's actually the other way around. 1550 has to accept whatever signal comes in from San Francisco because the latter was there first. I believe that's Real Oldies that the new KFRC is running.

  4. 1550 AM in San Francisco :

    KSMO---Classical
    KEAR --later on
KOBY---Top 40 and picked up simulcast on 95.7 FM
    KKHI- MOR
KPIX--- Group W...news...and it flopped with KCBS- KNBR competition
KYCY- Talk, KFRC Oldies went to 106.9 in 2007 and flipped to the AM on 1550
    KFRC--now on 1550 since Dec 22, 2008 with " True Oldies "....
KEAR --AM 610 now...a rotten shame and waste of low frequency Bandwidth IMO

All these allocations in SFO' have Grandfathered senority over anything in this part of the country.

....LIVE ON the BIG 610...it needs to be the KFRC ! Put the talk on 1550.

KKHI was Classical. Were they ever MOR?

  6. I think they might have been both. The listing said MOR but as I remember it from some other sources I read about a year ago that KKHI was that callsign for many many years. Probably longer as that callsign than any of the others listed.

  7. Didn't KKHI during its classical years run opera from San Francisco--maybe even (gasp) LIVE OPERA?
And before 2007 wasn't 1550 the all-podcast KYOU for at least six months?

Why does 1550 KFRC in San Francisco have a 250W FM repeater on 105.9 in Oklahoma?

Wasn't 1550 originally, at one time, KLIV in San Jose? In the mid 60's? Before KGAR came on the air here.

  11. How about the old KGAR at 1550 Vancouver, WA during the 1960s to the 1990s?

I take that back. KLIV is STILL on 1590!

  13. Semoochie, who can blame you for thinking it was gone? Given the current market, most of us have a pro-KLIV-ity to assume that a station has changed or disappeared.

Mr. Hurd, here is a heaping helping of KGAR history from our friend Craig Adams:
