SteveTheDJ is pretty much correct. While a lot of industry folks post here (I've been lurking for ages) and even more read it, the majority are probably people like myself. I started listening to talk radio every day when I was eight years old (that was almost thirty years ago... ugh) and had a passion at one time as a teenager for going into radio. My knowledge of radio is limited to what I have observed over the decades, what I have been able to educate myself on, and countless discussions with the many friends on and off air in the industry that I'm fortunate enough to have.

So more or less, any comments I make are based on those things above and any insights never really deeper than third-hand even from those on the inside. Definitely not to be compared to those walking the walk who have been there.

Edust,
Thank you. I had the good fortune to work for companies that put community involvement high on the priority list. Plus, I always thought that it was part of my job responsibility. I think a lot of the people who were in the biz when I was felt the same way. It seems that things have changed considerably these days. Too bad. It used to really reflect well on the stations and the industry.

Craig:
As one of those whose only connection with radio is that operating it means I can claim to play a musical instrument (usually followed by a big groan), and a long time listener, thank you very much for all of the years and I sincerely hope that I have as much of a positive impact on our community in my chosen profession as you have had with yours... even in retirement.

Tim has been hired and fired and re-hired and re-fired and hired and fired again.

On the outside chance that I might have spaced out and simply forgotten about the "three-day weekend", I had a conversation with the northwest's premier radio newsman, John Erickson. He agrees that nothing like you describe ever happened to us. If it had happened, I would tell you all about it. But, I don't think it did.
To Cronjob and everyone else...thanks for the positive words. Retirement is a wonderful thing. (But, there are times when I really miss it)

Dear Mr. Walker--You will find that most of the people on this site, have not worked in the business let alone every chraked a mike. A lot of these "experts" talk from there ass. Hope your doing well these days, and enjoying your retirement.

@Craig Walker

Excuse me while I digress, for a moment. When I was a freshman in high school many years ago, you graciously allowed me to visit your studio in Beaverton and interview you about radio and broadcasting for a school project. I never got a chance to thank you again for being so generous with your time and not talking down to a dumb kid back in the day.

And to get back on topic-ish, here's a 68m interview at WSU's KOUG from Thursday night with Rick Emerson.

http://www.imeem.com/people/wFjd-gb/music/dQvMs5Yj/cara-cottingham-rickemersonmp3/

Have a good Friday, everyone.

That can backfire too. But still, gotta give Craig credit for coming here and try to set the record straight.

This from All Access:

-----------------------------------------------Tim Riley Exits KUFO-----------------------------------------------

The changes last FRIDAY at ALPHA Active Rock KUFO/PORTLAND, OR claimed the job of the station's morning newsman and co-host TIM RILEY, who's now in the hunt for his next opportunity.

RILEY's entertaining and idiosyncratic take on the news has been an important part of former KUFO morning man RICK EMERSON's show at several PORTLAND stations, including Talk KCMD-A and KOTK-A, for over a decade.

RILEY continues with his website at rileylive.com and can be reached at timrileyradio@yahoo.com.
