Noted that the three major networks led their evening news with the Mt. Vernon bridge collapse. Why? Because this is not a local news story. Literally thousands of bridges need significant upgrades or replacement all around the country. This is a critical issue, and would seem to be a good way to create a lot of jobs as well. So far, I don't see much progress, even though this was an Obama plan.

Note that a lot of Eyeman's initiatives, passed by voters, were later deemed unconstitutional. I did agree with 695 though; the yearly excise tax tied into auto licensing annual renewals was outrageous.

"From what I've been told it's someone local with experience" I haven't been around there for more than 20 years, but the two names that would come to mind would be Ray Fields (former owner) and Mike Kolb. There is one other person with experience, a well known major market talent who lives there, but I shouldn't use his name since I have no idea who the potential buyer might be. There could be other possibilities that I don't know. This will no doubt turn into an interesting thread.

Deane, there was money in the Stimulus for "shovel" ready projects. Feds come in with 50%, State and Local government comes in with the other 50%. But thanks to Tim Eyman it didn't happen in Washington. That's why I am so condesending to you conservatives is you want less and less government spending, but when things like this happen you blame government for problems that occurred due to Eyman's actions. Projects in Washington came to a dead stop several years ago when Eyman lowered the fees on Auto License Renewals. There's a price down the line for voting for anything Eyman supports. But enjoy the Kool-aid.

Oh, I completely agree with Andrew. The GOP has done a lot of work and is running the playbook they need to run. The topics on the table may indicate problems, but they will be over emphasized and that post speaks to the why of that. Given how hypocritical most of the allegations are, it is hard for me to see the seriousness in the same way it all is being presented. This mess sucks, but the GOP really simple in a solid position to take seats and they simply need momentum --any momentum to do so. This garbage works nicely for that and for reasons I just gave. What I don't understand is how to check that. A basic reality message suffers general failure given the level of misinformation out there...

Can anyone please explain how the organization can ban gay scout leaders? I don't think it's possible. You can ban OPENLY gay scout leaders, sure. If you are worried about boys, say, being molested, banning openly gay scout leaders is about the dumbest thing you can do. Your typical child molester is perhaps a repressed gay male, not an openly gay man. If a scout leader is secretly gay, what else is he willing to lie about? I've not heard of an openly gay male molesting young boys, though I imagine it has happened. The more typical scenario is the "normal" guy everyone was shocked about when they learned he was molesting kids.

Amus, the only thing more outrageous than that is the very notion that anyone would order ANYTHING at Friday's. The one by the mall didn't just simply "go out of business", you know. That said, although the toilet-water theorem seems plausible enough, the "rubbing alcohol" thing is patently bogus. First off, the odour of the drink in the glass (isopropyl alcohol has a characteristic odour added to it in manufacture) would be a dead giveaway, and if people actually were dumb enough to consume it, wouldn't we be hearing about things like, oh, I don't know, cases of kidney failure or even blindness peing reported following Friday's visits? On the other hand, denatured ethanol (essentially the stuff in booze but with impurities added to make it unsuitable for consumption) is also sold as "rubbing alcohol" in the UK, which is not to be confused with "surgical spirit" (isopropyl alcohol, or "rubbing alcohol" here. Denatured ethanol is usually only sold as a window cleaner or industrial solvent here.) Even though denatured ethanol is chemically similar to booze, it still doesn't make the report believable, since even it will usually have odourants, bitterants and (sometimes) dyes, usually in the blue-purple spectrum, added. Then again, that article was published in the Daily Mail, which really isn't much better off credibility-wise than the National Enquirer over here.

Missing: The GOP has painted itself into a corner. Obstruction carries a high cost and that cost is having to somehow position the party as being the better one while at the same time being against pretty much anything that would benefit the vast majority of Americans. You're right - Republican obstructionism does carry a high cost...for the United States in general but probably not for the national GOP. I have yet to see how their obstructionism has cost them anything at the ballot box. Given the gerrymandered congressional districts as a result of the 2010 Republican landslides in state legislatures, I fail to see how the balance of power will change anytime soon; if anything, the GOP has a shot at taking over the Senate in 2014, given the way the races are stacked next year.

After reviewing KXPC's application for transfer of license, I think you're right, Field Strength. I think I may have jumped to conclusions regarding KNRQ's current programming. I can't imagine it playing out any other way though.
